Why has Kelvin Benjamin played like a lazy, fat, undisciplined, poo-tastic bum this year?

im not going to speak to coming back from an acl injury. that affects every single player differently and most people have no idea what its like.

but the dude is fuging fat, he lacks effort, and he runs crap routes.

Devin Funchess is the best damn route runner on the team.

I kind of agree here.  Just in the last few weeks he looks kind of fat and like he is lacking conditioning.  The effort also just doesnt seem their.  The first few weeks he was lights out so IDK.  Maybe it has to do with a week mentality across the board from our whole team.

Kelvin needs to work harder for sure, but he is by no means a bust. Personally, I never believed he was a prototypical WR1 because that's not his game, but I am not sure that's really important. We have needed a legit, route-running, shake-and-bake, take-it-to-da-house-threat-on-every play since before Smitty left, and we still do. We have needed that as much as we've needed a legit second TE for nearly the same amount of time. Once we get these two keys on offense, KB and Funchess would look a lot better (provided that Cam consistently goes through his progressions and gets them the ball when they're open).

You weren't ridiculed. You made a condescending thread and blamed concussions on conditioning. Then you went on a pretty racist rant. You got what you deserved

I never said concussions were caused by conditioning I just said it was astounding how many injuries we had which included concussions and I never got racist at all lol I didn't get poo because nobody shamed me lol don't start dude I don't have time to listen to this fine young malery again

As mentioned, his routes need to become wayyyyy crisper to improve his game.  His size works to an extent but route running is something that will really add to his arsenal.

We all know he's no blazer, but neither are guys like Fitzgerald, who has had himself an incredible career because his precision on routes and attention to detail is what sets him apart.  Fitz knows that timing and depth are important.

The older KB gets what little speed he has will deteriorate, and he will have to rely upon savvy and technique.  This is technically only Kelvin's 2nd year but in the offseason I hope Proehl or whoever really digs into his route running because it's pretty subpar to be kind.   If he didn't have his size going for him he probably would have been a UDFA.  Offseason needs to be heavy on improving route running and endless agility drills.  You ain't gotta be fast but at least work on having ballerina feet.

    • Seriously? A CB who missed all that time on his rookie deal and was also a top 10 pick when the guys picked right before and after have been studs. A RB our GMs tried to replace with FAs and 2nd rounders and two backup level players is one of the best drafts we’ve ever had? I’d argue that the 2011/2012 drafts were better even with just Cam and Luke/Norman. Here’s the drafts I think were better: 2017, maybe 2018, 2015, 2013, 2011, 2012, 2008, 2007, 2001, 2002 (just Pepp) I’m hoping 2025 is way better as well. Honestly, we’ve kind of sucked at drafting overall and that’s the only reason you can even remotely call Horn, Hubbard, Tremble and BC a good draft let alone one of our best ever. Good teams that draft well would laugh at that as a great draft. If you want to look at say the 2023 Lions draft, you’d get 4 stud/above average/average starters not just 3 replaceable starters/backups and a top 10 pick that missed half his games. That’s a draft that helps turn a team into a playoff team. Our record since our 2021 draft is 19-49. A best ever draft doesn’t go 19-49.
    • I remember when football was great.    Wasn't this century.
    • Bingo. You can't pay that type of player elite franchise QB money. That average starter type player can excel when he's surrounded by top shelf talent in a great offensive system but pay him elite QB money and you're going to really struggle to surround him with the type of talent you need to carry him. You pay those elite franchise QBs because they can carry your roster. You can't pay guys who have to be carried. Bryce showed glimpses down the stretch last year. I really hope he keeps building on that. But before we back up the Brinks truck he needs to show that he's the type of QB who can lift up and carry the offense because when you pay those guys that's what they're gonna have to do.
