Steve Smith to Retire (?)

Smith announced his intentions to retire after the 2015 season at the end of 2014. 

2015 rolls around and he blew his Achilles and immediately said he would return to play a full season, finish that season and retire on his terms, which is why he stuck around for the 2016 season. 

Years ago he would spend the night before home games at one of the downtown hotels and walk to the stadium Sunday morning. It allowed him to focus on the game and made it much easier not being around his family when it came time to switch on "game mode."

When I worked for the Bobcats I assisted Smitty in purchasing an Adam Morrison jersey. He was very quiet and nice. But he was bout ready to whoop his kids asses for acting like goobers

After 13 years as a Panther, and only 3 as a Raven. Give him time to reflect, and he will do the right thing. Retire a Panther.

 

Say what you will about Gman, but there is a whole org. besides him. Smitty was around that building for almost half his life. Gman alone, is not enough for Smitty to turn his back on all that. IMO, it comes down to emotion. Does Smitty Love the Panther Org. more than he Hates Gman. And I would hazard to guess the answer is on the Love side.

 

Smitty loves Charlotte, and he loves JR. Give him time to adjust to civilian life, and he will choose to retire a Panther. There really is no other choice for him.
