It's a valid one.

All the credit in the world for developing Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad, but outside of that what does he have to hang his Panthers hat on?

I will give him credit for Moose but I think Smith's success is more because of the fact that the man has mad love for this game. He has the biggest heart on this team. And I think that's what separates him from anyone else in this league.

I can see that, and I'd also have to give some (unintentional) credit to Marty Hurney.

Back when Smith was getting ready to come off his rookie contract, somewhere in the discussion of a possible extension Marty Hurney referred to Smith as "unproven". At the time, it was a valid description, but "unproven" wasn't the word that was relayed back to Smith by his agent.

Instead, Smith was told that he'd been described by Hurney as "marginal" :sosp:

Smith's ego being what it is, he didn't take kindly to the supposed comment. The record was eventually set straight and Smith was re-signed, but I'm not sure the chip ever came off his shoulder.

And thus, you have the Steve Smith of today.

Exactly, Smith's sucess' is more a result of his tenacity and fire then because of coaching. Best pick we have ever made by far. He was a 3rd round pick and is IMO the best WR in the league.

Is there a part on this coacing staff that anyone is happy with? i know Im getting angry with ST, D-line, WRs, QB, DC... The running backs and offensive line are carrying the work load in my eyes. We have yet to develop a WR since steve smith. that has to speak volumes about this staff

I don't even think our Oline has played up to expectations either especially the 1st game.

I'm trying to remember who the Pro Bowl coaching staff was one of the years he went as a return guy. He went up to an offensive coach (WR coach maybe) and offered to play receiver, and the guy dismissed him, telling him to go back with the special teamers.

Agreed, as much as I like The Golden Calf of Bristol, no way we draft him.

I would be fine with no USC WR's anymore as well.

Said it before. The Golden Calf of Bristol is one of the nicest kids to ever play the game, but his profile just doesn't translate well to being an NFL QB.

He's a superior athlete, but that doesn't necessarily make him a good quarterback.

    • It was absolutely a catch, and I can’t believe how many folks were stating, before the NFL’s apology, that the overturn was the right call.  The ultimate question in this case is this: can a player complete a catch with only one hand? Of course, we all know the answer to that question, and it is an emphatic “Yes.” T-Mac maintained complete control with one hand (believe it was the right) while the other came off when the ball hit the ground. The ball was in the same position in the one hand (watch T-Mac’s fingers in relation to the NFL shield on the ball) after touching the ground as it was when it first went to the ground. Going back to the question above, if one hand can establish control, then there was no need for the other to stay on the ball, so long as the ball doesn’t move in that one hand that stays on it   It blew my mind that they overturned this in the first place. This should not be a “We got it wrong on the replay because there wasn’t clear and convincing evidence.” This should have been, “That was absolutely a catch.”
    • Sign him up. I am willing to bet he wouldn't finish a game with -2 yards.
    • He is just fuging limited in every way.  On one hand, and nfl player, you would want to bulk them up so long as it doesn’t limit their mobility, elasticity, flexibility, ROM, or dynamicism - as is the concern with bulking up.  But the issue with that is, you would be worried about that when a guy has those traits to begin with.  Bryce is a very average athlete with a weak arm.  So if you’re not gonna be a great athlete with a strong arm, bulk up.  And if you can’t or won’t bulk up, find another fuging profession that doesn’t require athleticism and arm strength.  You’re built like a bitch AND aren’t a great athlete - you can’t be subpar in both categories…  well, unless you play for the Panthers apparently.
