What if Steve Smith Sr. coached Panthers WRs next year

I'm not going to pretend to know whether or not SSSr would adequately coach at the NFL level, but some of y'all gotta realize this isn't the same hot head from 10+ years ago that was busting teammates faces. I can speak with certainty though, we wouldn't see the lackadaisical play by some of our current wideouts that I saw this year if Smitty had any authority over the matter.

This has to be the greatest idea ever. I have no insight as to how things ended personally between Steve and our staff/management, but we could really use somebody like smitty to inspire our players.

Yea i get that. Some of you guys pooped on this idea, some of you guys liked the idea. I think we should at least give him the offer. Either now, or down the road a couple of years. Some of you said that former players dont always make good coaches, which is true. But the Panthers have had a very good history when it comes to former players becoming coaches: Ricky Proehl WR coach, Sam Mills Linebackers coach, and lets not forget; our Head coach Ron Rivera is also a former player.

Not NO, but hell NO!  Smitty is a great receiver but I don't think he is coaching material.

Smith would likely be a terrible coach. As a player he wouldn't even acknowledge rookies and held petty grudges and let his emotions out of control. All things which would make him an awful coach.  Besides he wouldn't want to take a huge paycut when he has been preparing himself for either a career in broadcasting or finance for years.

I think he would be an interesting broadcaster.

    • I thought he was from watching him play and also doing his first HC job. I thought he was the real deal  Apparently what happened is Kraft committed to Mayo and I don’t remember the timeline exactly - but Vrabel was unemployed at the same time Belichick was unemployed. They both were fired after the 2023 season.  Kraft hired Mayo. Who was kind of an obvious disaster. He probably already had the deal in place but I will give Kraft credit for not sleeping. With Vrabel out there for 2025 he made the move he needed to make and if it hurt Mayo’s feelings then oh well.  I guess you can tell I am not fond of Kraft but that was a really savvy move. At his age, pretty good. Still has it.
    • It’s going to feel like a home game for the bills. There are so many of their fans that live down here now, and many of them have never seen Allen play in person since their last visit was 8 years ago. It didn’t matter for the cowboys game, but it might here. I think we likely lose a close one. Probably a questionable flag or two that doesn’t go our way. X factor for Buffalo will be Kincaid and Knox. If we do win it’s because we get ahead and play keep away from Allen. FYI- I have many friends who are Bills fans that are fed up with Beane who we all revere and think is the one that got away. They feel like he was great to land Josh but has done a terrible job of building around him (especially at WR) and rely on him to become super man to win- sounds kind of familiar, like the last time we had a franchise QB.
    • I always thought of him as an uptight military family dude, didn't know he needs to wash that mouth out with soap lol.
