Unknown why Rivera is taking his time.

Only reason I could imagine is he's waiting for Senior Bowl week when the annual unofficial job fair takes place.

In not sure if its a Rivera thing or just a Panthers one. If memory serves me correctly Fox was also slow with staff hires.

So, looking at DL Coach options...

The likely strongest candidate is a guy whose status is up in the air. Broncos DL Coach Bill Kollar is well known and well respected. He may be staying with the Broncos though. It's uncertain at this point.

Another possible is Pepper Johnson, late of the Jets. Most of Johnson's career has been spent coaching linebackers but over the last few years he's switched to defensive line. You'll probably remember him as a long time Giant, but his time there didn't coincide with Gettleman's.

For those who love former Panther players, Jeff Zgonina is an Assistant DL Coach with the Giants. Not a lot of experience as a coach but Eric Washington didn't have much either and Zgonina had lots as a player.

There's also former Chargers DL Coach Giff Smith, who's inexperienced at the pro level but has the distinction of having coached WWE Wrestler Roman Reigns in college. (Hey, that counts for something, right?)

Updates on a couple of prospects...

Greg Lewis has joined Andy Reid in Kansas City (and I'm fine with that) while Mike Groh has replaced Lewis in Philly.

On the QB coach front, the Jets are reportedly interviewing George Godsey as one of their OC options while the Redskins have hired Kevin O'Connell for their vacant QB coach slot.

Meanwhile, still no news on the Panthers front.

Perhaps, but it would still require firing the old one, and that's not been officially done yet.

Voth thinks the team is trying to let him find another job first, but so far no luck.

Imagine that no one in the NFL interested in Dorsey.  ." Doh"

I wonder how warm Brenston Buckner would feel about a lateral move to be back in the Carolinas?

I don't think he aspires for that considering the success he has had in ARZ, but I'd love to have him back here after seeing what he's done in the desert.

I think he's rising quickly and will be a hot name in DC circles over the next few years. If Washington does leave, I hope we at least kick the tires.

He'd have to be out of contract or get permission for a lateral move (which honestly isn't likely).

    • Truth. Like when UNC hired Butch Davis and then we get hit for recruiting violations. Like yeah, no poo. Dude coached Miami when they we paying like the 33rd NFL team. What did you expect?
    • He's a hard player to rank, cause he is a young NT. I do see his abilities to branch out among the DL. That's the only way for him to land in the 1st, some team has to believe he's got the stuff to play DE or T3.... I just don't see using 19 on him, I feel there should be around 7 players just ranked higher than him for the Panthers team.  ___________________________________________________________________   Now you are a roster nut like me. Im tossing this into fire, I think a good move is to trade UP, yes rare. Just the roster #s tell me 5 rookies and no more than 2 starters will make the team. I feel 5 is magic number.    QB- 2  BY, Pickett RB- 3   Chubba, Brooks(pls), etienne TE- 4   Sanders, Temble, Evans, Draft pick/major/franks/UDFA OL- 10   Walker, Lewis, Fortner, Hunt, Motown, Zavailla, Samac, Stone, Draft pick, Draft pick/Charles/carter WR-  6   Tmac, XL, Coker, Metch, Horn, Tremay   offense=  25 with 3 draft picks   DL-  6   Brown, Brown, Wharton, Ray, Cam, Hunter/draft pick Ed-   5  Phillips, Nic, Prince, Jones, ST/incoom/hampton ILB-   5  Lloyd, Wallace, Bam, Claud, draft pick CB-    5 Horn, Jackson, Thor, Evans, draft pick/CSN/UDFA SS-  4  Scott, More, Ramsom, Sim   Defense = 25 with 2 picks   ST = known 3+o+d = 53 roster   SO I see only room for 5-6 with factoring in UDFA pool. That tells me to trade up! Bonus the 1st+3rd gets in front of TB yucs. Then use one of the 5ths+2nd to draft another target. That's your two starters and use the 4th, 5th and 6th for the development OTs and what ever the best player are at the pick/DB. The last couple years they have added 2-3 UDFA each year, maybe the same this year too. Soooooooo Im normally 95% trade back, but above made me change my mind. I do not want to waive 5th rounder, I feel thats high with players on the bench.    ?? There's waiver claims too, they have done that each year.
