ESPN says Panthers stink at franchise tagging

Maybe so.

I didn't have an issue with letting Norman walk. I just had an issue with the way it was handled. If we were going to let Norman walk, that decision should've happened before every decent FA available was snatched up so we could've had a chance at getting decent vet CB to replace him and didn't have to spam draft picks at CBs. By the time we let him go, that ship had sailed. We shot ourselves in the foot by tying up $14M in cap space until there was no one left worth signing.

Can't disagree with that at all.  But I think Gettleman truly thought he would be able to get something done with Josh before the season.  However, when it became obvious that wasn't happening, I think he just didn't want to take the risk.  Especially after Josh didn't sign the tag and skipped the offseason program.  So, I don't think he was ever planning on pulling the tag, but it was a decision he made just before doing it.  And of course by that time, we were deep into FA, and all the viable options were long gone.

I think both sides played their hand poorly. It was pretty clear Josh wanted to be here. He tried to sign the tag after it got pulled. I think Gettleman pulled the plug too early. Not sure what went on between that agent and Gettleman but if I had been in Gettleman's shoes, I'm not making that rash decision without reaching out to Josh himself and letting him know where we were at and what was about to happen if he didn't jerk his agent's ass in line and at least put pen to paper on the tag.

Agree 100%.  I really like Gettleman and think overall he is an upper echelon GM, but I believe his biggest weakness is that he can be too unemotional when dealing with players.  I think sometimes he forgets that while everyone realizes it's a business, they're still people and he has a tendency to step on their emotions.

He has an ego. We all do. I just think sometimes he trips over his dick while trying to stroke his own ego. And let's be honest, we all do that on occasion too. I think he got caught up in a dick measuring contest with that agent and decided to show him who was boss. I just wonder if he truly considered the fact that making that move meant he was completely blowing up the secondary? He had to know he was going to release Harper. He had to know that they weren't going to bring back Tillman. That pretty much just left Bene and Boston. He must have put WAY too much faith in those guys.

Yep!  I'm sure he wanted to put that agent in his place.  The problem is that now he had to focus our draft on stocking the secondary.  If we had kept Norman, we would have had an additional draft pick or two to try and fill other needs or find a guy to develop into a contributor.

Define overdrafting? We got what look to be two solid starters locked in for the next x years in Bradberry and Worley....and a high comp pick in our back pocket for letting Norman walk.

So....we missed on the flyer for Sanchez? Is that it?

Yeah ok...more high hopes and spin... only starters because they have to be...messed up with Josh ,didn't need to draft 3 with other issues ...yes overdraft...too many... unnecessary...

I can guarantee you we would still have drafted Bradberry and Worley regardless of whether or not Josh played under the tag.

It was a one year rental with Josh no matter what. Both of those rookies are away ahead of where Josh was in his development at this point in their respective careers.

Get over it.

G-man screwed up ,you know it ,I know it, he knows it...Josh wanted to stay and would have...CB situation would have been as settled as it ever was ...but now we still need another one to go along with the growing list of other needs neglected... sorry I can't get over it...and no you can't guarantee anything...

I don't think I'm alone in thinking that the Panthers franchise has been embarrassing and foolish at times over the years. From throwing a season away to plan for a lockout that didn't happen, to the Hardy debacle with JR blubbering and caving in to media pressure, it's a mess a times. Now we've learned that John Fox never even saw Pickles play before we drafted him. It's no wonder we haven't won a SB.

Everything is a story in the off-season, once we win a SB a lot of hate will go away.

Honestly I don't think so because the story Will be more about our opponent losing than us winning we can't win for losing we can't win when we win I don't know why people don't like this franchise by the hate is real
