Panthers Have Interest In LT Matt Kalil - Official Info From A Source

For those of you with dreams of the Kalil Brothers on the same team, it's not as far-fetched as some think.

According to Voth and his sources with knowledge on the matter, Panthers are interested in seeking out Matt Kalil in Free Agency.

"We're in the unknown and we're going to move forward. We've got a plan and we'll just see where it goes. I can't give you anything more than that."

That plan, according to sources, includes interest in left tackle Matt Kalil, who's set to become a free agent on March 9.

The younger brother of Panthers center Ryan Kalil, Matt Kalil has been a disappointment after the Vikings took him with the fourth overall pick in the 2012 draft. But the Panthers believe Kalil can be more than serviceable with a change of scenery.

Don't be surprised to see Matt Kalil as another addition to our o-line. At worst he's a good backup with potential to become a starter there.

Although Kalil still has a ways to go to getting back to his amazing rookie season form, it's not too far-fetched to believe Gettleman can't do it again. He has potential to come and solidify the LT spot with our interior being one of the best, and help us out.

Another Oher-like possibility that does make a lot of sense.

EDIT: Since there are those who believe this was news that had broke grounds earlier; yes, Voth has mentioned multiple times in the past on the possibility of Matt Kalil. However, this article was the first that really said the Panthers themselves had the interest and that Voth got the info from sources.

Sorry for the confusion.

This isn't exactly breaking news

Actually, it kind of is. This shows the Panthers are actually interested in Mat Kalil like we are. The only things floating around lately have been "what if Matt Kalil were on the team?"

Voth basically certified the Panthers have actual interest in that possibility. Pretty cool stuff.

Voth has been saying this for a couple weeks now.

February 21st.

Voth doesn't often tweet stuff like this. When he does, it means something

Well, appears he made that in an opinion-like sentence. The part I quoted stated Voth had heard from sources on the matter.

    • I agree, but I've already said that the players will definitely take more money up front because it's more security. But they want more guaranteed money and NFL FOs don't want to do that for several and various reasons, and that's what's at issue.  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-second-round-rookies-finally-starting-to-sign-what-took-so-long-and-what-it-means-for-future-contracts/ It's a tug of war between teams and players, and, sure, paying a player a signing bonus may satisfy them, especially if--and sometimes "only if"--it ultimately leads to a guarantee of more of their contract, but the teams are on the hook for all of those guarantees when cap time comes, so if they guarantee more money, they're ultimately losing the contract game.
    • TBH, these are the kind of players that get weeded out of professional sports pretty quickly. Also, CMC is not that guy. There is zero indication that he isn't competitive.
    • I like the free agency. It actually helps basically all schools across the board. Pretty much only ancient HC's and/or HC's that haven't been able to adjust have been complaining about the free agency. Your fortunes can be made or broken every offseason. It's not like before where a bad recruiting class or two meant multiyear purgatory.  I will never understand all the bellyaching about the NIL. If you want to talk about what ruined college athletics, it has been naked greed. Conference expansions for TV revenue, ever skyrocketing AD and facilities costs and now the attempts to permanently ruin the postseasons(football and basketball).  All the kids did was get a very well deserved piece of a very, very, VERY broken pie.
