keep lee cut gano

Michael Palardy did great job last season coming in halfwa, plus he is younger and cheaper.

We need to cut Lee & Dickson, that could save us 5 million.

We need veteran presence in the ST and Gano would be a good mentor for a rookie.

Oher is a tough decison, if he is able to play having him as depth would be great maybe restructure his contract.

Palardy did good? He was almost last in the league. Lee is one of the best and he was pinning people inside the ten before he got hurt. Whoever says we should get rid of him, your crazy. We also gave up a third rd pick for him. He will be on this team unless he gets hurt.

That is a fair argument but the gunners had bigger impact due to terrible tackling & containment of the returners where most of the damage was done more so than distant of a punt.

I really don't think that Lee is as safe as you all think, and I think they may know more about the injury than any of us do.

Otherwise, why fork over $1.8 mil to tender a backup?

I think Palardy is our future. He wasn't last in the league, IIRC. He was middle of the pack in net/avg, and honestly, how many games are you going to argue that punting lost us?

Hell we could take probably the best punter in the draft in the last round or as a UDFA and pay him 1/6th what Andy Lee would save us by cutting him.

Obviously, a 100% healthy Lee that cost us a 3rd round draft pick is ideal. But to act like he's untouchable in the face of the evidence is kind of misinformed.

Anyone who thinks Stewart is getting the boot is fuging crazy. The difference in the offense is night and day when he's out. He'll restructure before we cut him.

Agree with this.

Additionally, I *REALLY* can't imagine we'd cut Stewart in a season where we've made a big deal of re-signing CJ, Peppers & Munnerlyn.  This season has a "let's get rings for all the old guys before the retire" and Stew fits nicely into that picture as a Panthers home-grown player / fan favorite.  This year seems like the Panthers comeback tour... Stew fits in perfectly along with TD, Pep, Captain, CJ....

{Edit: Yes I know this an "emotional" non-football reason to keep Stew around.  But I think he's still playing well to want to keep him.  And some times the non-tangible things in terms of personality and team spirit make a major contribution to winning a championship...}

I agree somewhat. While I don't think he would be cut only because of his cap hit, I think he could be a cap casualty if Gettleman has his sights on an offensive gem to put the team over the top. We're all in this season. And let's face it, Stew is great when he's in the game, but he's not the most durable (never has been) or the best receiving back.

This is the season for Cam to take over. No excuses. Put the league on notice once and for all and let them know 2015 wasn't a fluke. Gotta work through the lack of offensive adjustments and predictable playcalling.

I just hope Rivera is open to allowing the new speedy WRs to really get a shot at playing. Could you imagine Shephard, Johnson and Byrd on the field at the same time? Not saying they'd be the best, but you'd damn well better respect all that speed.

Fournette=No Stew.  No Fournette=Stew.  You don't suck after a 17 win season to use the #8 overall pick on a generational talent at a devalued position and also pay big $$$ to an injury prone 30 year old that just averaged 3.8 ypc.  An absolute asinine allocation of resources when we're trying to win ring 1.  We all want to give all our guys rings but the Patriots didn't win even 1, much less 5, by being sentimental.

agreed, and the Pats hardly ever have high draft picks to eat up cap, even when they did they traded down and even out of the 1st round.  They draft specific puzzle pieces for their system, when they lose one, they go out and get the exact same piece in a different player.  Its how they stay consistent every year.

Problem with Stewart is his injury concerns. If he goes down and the team ignores getting a future replacement on the roster this season it could be the end of the season as far as playoffs.

Perhaps.  I agree signing Fournette at #8 would be the one scenario I could imagine where we release Stew.  Even so, I think we'd try to restructure before we outright cut him.  We have pretty much no RB depth... If Stew would sign for cheap, I'd be happy to keep him around during Fournette's rookie season.

Oh I WANT us to get a replacement in this draft.  This is the year to do it with a very deep & talented RB pool.  So sign me up to draft a high RB.  I just want to find a way to keep Stew around for one more year, hopefully at a reasonable cost.

Agreed 100%. I enjoy reading your posts, especially the ones with statistics. Have a good day.

If we get Fournette CAP is getting cut and Stew would get restructured. No way Fournette takes over the reigns with Fozzy as his backup. Fournette/Stew splitting touches with Fozzy being used to throw off the defense is my ideal situation. CAP plays too similar to Stew and Fournette but without the skills that Stew and Fournette already have. Fozzy can line up in the slot off an audible and can execute the screen better than anyone on the team
