PICK 8.

8

CAR.png

John Ross - WR, Washington

Finding speed at the receiver position should be a priority for the Panthers.

I'm also not non-averse to the remaining picks in his 4-round mock:

40. Carolina Panthers: Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee

64. Carolina Panthers: Shaquill Griffin, CB, Central Florida

98. Carolina Panthers: Daeshon Hall, DE, Texas A&M

115. Carolina Panthers: Conor McDermott, T, UCLA

Anyone wants to select Ross at 8 is crazy, im glad Gman is not crazy about speedy wr.

Ross at #8 is both scary (injuries) and exciting (he's the top playmaker in the draft, when healthy).  I wouldn't hate it, but I wouldn't love it either.

I think we need a dynamic receiver on this roster, but for health reasons I'd lean towards Davis if we are using a top 10 pick on the position (though he isn't available in this scenario).

I think Kamara will go top 50 but I don't think it will be to the Panthers.  I think there are some character concerns that will keep him off of our board.  I also don't think he is all that good but apparently some NFL teams do.

The top 7 playing out like that is close to a nightmare scenario for the Panthers - in Gettleman's shoes in that scenario, I'd do this:

8) OJ Howard, TE

40) Budda Baker, S at #40 (he's going to be a very good safety in the league)

64) Shaq Griffin, CB (unchanged - he's an athletic freak, has the long arms Gman likes, and fills a need - we only have two outside CBs on the roster, and an injury or sophomore slump - think Bene - would be disastrous)

98) Daeshon Hall, DE (unchanged)

115) Samaje Perine, RB

The only thing I don't like is that I couldn't fit in a WR - would love to find a way to add a mid-round guy like Taywan Taylor or Carlos Henderson.  Could package #115 with our fifth rounder to make that happen.

Ross would take this offense to another level and open things up for other players as well.

The guy isn't just your typical "speedy WR". Ross creates separation like no other and it's just not on his go routes either. This kid has great footwork and has the ability to score after any catch.

I feel nothing for this mock draft .. I don't think Ross is worth 8 pick..reaching there ..just not a big fan..never heard much about him til he blew away the 40.. We have other needs with BPA

The 40 time was not at all surprising if you saw Ross play last season.  He is a natural receiver who consistently made game breaking plays in college.  I'm not saying we should pick him at #8, but he is not at all a product of the combine.

Gotcha..just never heard of him until the combine.. but again I don't follow many teams from the West coast

Yeah he's legit.  If it weren't for the injury history, I'd be thrilled to draft him at #8 - he would be a huge add for our offense.  But two knee surgeries and microfracture surgery are big red flags.

Yeah we don't need that we took a chance with Jeff Otah as we jumped backup into the 1st and he had injury knee issues and got worse within 2-3 years and got where he was out of shape and heavier every year if he played.. a waste of a pick

Gettleman says he likes to take guys in the 1st round whose arrows are pointing up.

Thats Ross.

Ross is still just learning how to use his speed which is scary considering what he did last season. Ross trained with Desean Jackson last offseason and kept in touch with him throughout the season. Ross is supposedly a great kid who loves to learn and get better.

Just imagine what Ross' speed would do for Cam.
