Lord help the PFF nut huggers. It makes them feel so important and informed.

Meanwhile, their own rankings are often the best argument against their methodology.

Well the  PFF auto-detractors obviously don't understand or appreciate context, and how PFF is not negative or a failsafe in and of itself.

I think he saw PFF in the title and lost it. His post make it seem like assumed it was  some sort of opinionated ranking vs a deeper breakdown of factual stats.

As a statistical aggregator I respect what they do, but their attempts to build actual rankings off of that data are highly suspect at very best.

I'm a big numbers guy myself. A lot of my career has revolved around data analysis. But, part of that is understanding the limitations of raw data. Data doesn't live in a vacuum.

What kills me is that it isn't a true ranking per se anyway, because it really only consists of the top prospects (as indicated in the table titles), and not necessarily some guy at some small school that few people have heard of that put up similar or even better stats on paper than some of these guys who are already considered top prospects irrespective of PFF.

Guilty. I get so sick of people acting like their poo is the gospel.

Even in this case, they're highlighting QB rating. It's not a coincidence that WRs catching passes from the likes of Watson, Trubisky, Mayfield, etc. are featured high.

Like I said, stats don't live in a vacuum. That's where I have a big issue with PFF. They seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of that huge caveat.
