OJ Howard or Christian McCaffrey

Howard is the finished product, but Njoku and other TEs are the ones who have their manufacturers provide them with expansion kits alongside the model so the owner can easily expand and fit concepts just as they desire with ease.

Howard has a better foundation, but not that high of a ceiling. That's what makes him a probable disappointment in the NFL.

Personally. I think OJ Howard would be a disappointment or even a bust if he went to a team like the Jets that might ask him to be their primary weapon after getting rid of Brandon Marshall and possibly Eric Decker and with no answer at QB. The Panthers are the ideal scenario for him because we have a franchise QB with a big arm and an All-Pro TE he can learn from. The issue is whether OJ Howard was grossly underutilized in Alabama and his best years are ahead of him or he is just an athlete. I'm leaning towards the former. I like McCaffery and see him as a replacement for Fozzy and to fill the role Cotchery played for us in 2015 but the thing that bothers me is that I believe that Joe Mixon is better than him so I don't see the value of getting him at 8. I rather see a trade down and get an additional second round pick,  then take McCaffery instead of taking him outright.

OJ Howard no questions asked.  McCaffrey is a great talent.  However, you can find another RB with similar skill set later in draft.   Howard to me is the only Elite Tier 1 TE in this draft with a great ceiling.  There are plenty of other great TE's in this draft don't get me wrong, Njoku, Kittle, Hodges, Ingram, etc.  But OJs combination of proven speed, strength, and blocking ability to me sets him above the rest.

There's nothing proven about him. Don't fool yourself.

We playing the long game or the short game?

I normally play the long game, but not right now.

Howard would get about 5-7 targets per game max for the next couple years.....CmC would touch the ball 20+ times per game....and we need quickness and reliability on this offense in the worst kind of way.  I think that with CmC you would get a player that is ready to contribute immediately.

As for Howard. I want to bring up Brett's video ( @Cracka McNasty's favorite draft dude) as a starting point for another argument.

The dude would make a good salesman. His explanation seemed great, but it does not point out the fact he's a weapon that should've been utilized, but not. If he were so rare in talent and amazing, why would said coach - known to bring the best out of every player - limit him, as @Promethean Forerunner mentioned before?

Because the rest of the offense is inept? That excuse lacks basis, as you see Fournette being the focal point of a talent depleted offense. If Howard is your supposed best offensive player, why limit him so much as he was?

If your offense as a whole isn't up to par, you scheme around your best player. Sure, could argue their QB was schemed around to allow him to run, but that doesn't excuse the fact Howard is theoretically their supposed "best weapon" who was never used the way he supposedly should've.

And that's the thing. If he wasn't used to his "fullest," and if he truly were a superstar, why did Alabama not scheme around him? Is he limited in some way to hide his deficiencies? Is there a weakness somewhere that's yet to be exploited of him? Is he limited in experience or route running to the point he's just forced on basic fundamental routes and concepts?

This is why he is a projection, not a sure talent. His athleticism and base seem good on paper, but he will be a project if he were to break the "glass ceiling" and achieve the stardom status many are propping him with.

Beautifully said and yet still haven't heard a rebuttal to this. Why? Cuz there is no good reason. I'm not saying OJ can't be good at the next level, but it's a huge red flag to me that Bama's offense didn't try to play thru him if he's this superstar. I'd still like him on our team, no doubt. But taking him at 8 seems like an incredibly negligent reach.

Fournette will about 90% be gon to the Jaguars so I would say McCaffery and probably that tight end out of Miami because I'm sure by the time our next pick comes around, he'll be gone but if he's not, hell yeah we better grab him or pay for it during the season..

I disagree. It's looking more likely that Solomon Thomas and/or Jonathan Allen will drop to #4.

    • It is a tough decision.  There is another factor.  Is he in game shape?  A tired Hunt is not better than an "in-shape" Corbett.  When coming off an injury, it is natural to want to protect the injured area, even if it is completely healed.  This can cause you to contort your body for no reason, lose fundamentals, and it could lead to other injuries.  For example, I had a knee in high school that required getting taped.  That made me aware of the knee (not used to tape on my knee) and I pulled my groin (favoring or dragging the leg with the tape).  The trainer explained the groin injury the way I do here--but scared money makes no money.  If he is cleared to play, he is cleared to play.  Watch him, rotate him in for a series, etc.  Specifically, I would want to watch the matchup--who is winning more--Corbett or Hunt?  How is the defense reacting (if at all) to Hunt being in?  Etc.
    • Shannon was sued for $50 million (settled out of court, I believe) for forcing sex on his girlfriend during a two-year relationship.  He denies it, but ESPN let him go last April.  Chad Johnson's wife filed a police report because he head-butted her in a car and was put on probation. I had to google it.  I watched the Ray Rice video and when you see it, you realize just how vile and cowardly abusing a woman really is.  But for the same point Aussie tried to make, these women are defenseless, and being phyiscally bigger and stronger does not validate your actions.   I can't even stand to watch Steve Smith.  I can't normalize this kind of behavior--again, I do not think R-P had that in mind when he posted this.  When the reason was exposed, we should realize that we are talking life (quality of) and death (in some cases) here.
    • I can respect the fact that we should not glorify or normalize men who have a history of beating women.  I do not think anyone was thinking of that when they posted this, but if head-butting your wife and unconsensual sex (rape) is something you cannot overlook, I agree with that.  I think they are both half-crazed attention hounds regardless of their pasts.
