I knew it was bad, but... well, see for yourself...

Here are the average yards each team has given up on punt returns through three games.

OK, we're dead last. Not a complete shocker there, but look at the gap from us to other teams. On average, we give up more than double the team sitting at #30.

We've given up more punt return yards on AVERAGE than seven teams in the NFL have given up TOTAL through three games.

We've done slightly better on kickoff coverage. We are at 31st overall (28.3 yards per return) ahead of the Oakland Raiders. So at least we're not dead last there :mad2:

I had to work during the Dallas game(thank God} I did however catch the start and some of the 3rd qtr. I got to see two 3 and outs with Dallas returning the punts for what seemed like forever. League average looks like 8 -9 yds per return, but 27.3? It's a punt return not a kickoff return! This puts the defense in a hole right off the bat and neutralizes anything the offense may have gained in the prior possession. I see no speed on ST at all, they are just running right by us.

Baker has good distance but alot of his kicks have been low line drives with no hang time and that completely screws your coverage. I'm not saying it's all his fault, it goes way beyond a few bad punts (as the failure on kickoff coverage proves) but he's not exactly helping things either.

Seriously, at this point I'd just tell him to kick the ball out of bounds every time. Even if we lose 10 yards on the punt by angling it out of bounds that's still better than giving up 25-30 yard returns every time.

This... Baker's been off too. I'm a huge fan of his, and think he's a great punter, buteven he's been a factor in our overall piss-poorness.

    • One thing I didn’t consider is how thin this draft is at quarterback. That’s going to drive up the market for backups and borderline starters like Willis, Jones, and Jameis Winston. Because of that, we’ll most likely be priced out of the market for this tier of backup.
    • We've already beat the #1 seed twice, why not one more? (Packers and Rams were both #1 seed at the time we played)
    • My determination has come down to this. Based on recent QB history, has Bryce's improvement warranted 50m per season? Lamar is the only original team QB to play on his 5th year. The others took major deals at the end of the 3rd, before or just after the option was signed. Chances are, we're getting asked for the same.  I haven't rooted for Bryce to fail. I've rooted for him to succeed so big that them signing that extension would give me no worries about our future at QB at all. We haven't seen that level of play consistently that this year. We haven't seen it in the past 6 games.  We're about to be at a threshold with Bryce and I worry about what this front office will do. We have a history of bad decision making and Morgan has been part of that group making those decisions. I don't want Carolina in the same boat Arizona and Miami are right now. It has nothing to with being right. It has to do with wanting to win for more than a single season. We've never had back to back winning seasons. Faith in their abilities is not warranted at this point.
