Ive been reading some good books lately and want the trend to continue. So please if you know of a good one please post it here.

The ones if finished reading are;

Enders Game

Rainbow 6

The song of Ice and Fire

Hitchhickers Guide

To name a few. So Im looking for books along that genre

Please dont post books that will make you sound smart - but are a crappy read.

On a serious note, I highly recommend "Playing for Pizza," by John Grisham. It's perfect for any football fan, or lover of Italian culture. It's also eerily appropriate for any Panthers fan right now.

It's about a quarterback who implodes so badly during a game that the only team that will take him is a minor league team in Italy (see what I mean about it being appropriate for Panthers fans?). A great, breezy read. Makes me hungry when I read it.

After reading Tucker Max's "I hope they serve beer in H*ll" and actually enoying, I punished myself by jabbing a spork in my eye socket and will be unable to read books for another 7 months which is when the scabs are supposed to fall off.

Go see the movie, if you like that, you'll have to deafen yourself for the next month.

Enders Game and the Hitchhikers Guide are absolute must reads. I have reread both books many times.

Life of Pi-Yann Martel

Stiff-Mary Roach

Mine-Robert R McCannon

The Stand-Stephen King

and for the women, The Red Tent-Anita Diamont

I am also hopelessly enslaved by The Southren Vampire series, True Bloood, I can help it.

Read Life of Pie - it was one of those boooks that I would typically never have read b/c of the most part I thought it was boring. but after I finished the book I found it was one of the best I ever read!

The best books I ever read are mostly still the classics - Swiss Family Robinson, Treasure Island, Count of Monte Cristo, etc. If you like that stuff along with funkier fare like sci-fi, pick up The Stars My Destination. Amazing and fast paced. Also, if you're a military/history buff like me, you'll enjoy Once an Eagle, by Anton Myrer. Follows the rise of a soldier through the US Army from WWI to Korea.

I can't read

but when I used to, I liked to read books like Ludlum...the Bourne series was good....anyone got anything along those lines that I should read? I need to start again!

Pick up something by Stephen Hunter. Black Light, second Saladin either will do. Bob Lee Swagger is a pure badass

    • Kind of where I'm at on this also. I think he has the potential to be an all pro caliber guard if he can come back 100%. He's more mauler than quick. Hunt is making 20m per, Moton is making 22m. Moton is a better RT than Icky is a LT so I think the pay comp would probably be about the same there. I don't see Icky as a 28m per season LT. He'll be low 20s and as an elite guard, i think he'd be within a couple mill of that.
    • I read that Pittsburgh is a possibility.  I think of college QB studs who had some form of mental quirk yet tons of talent--but their issue made being a team leader difficult and it led to their demise--going back:  Jamarcus Russell, Art Schlichter, Jeff George, etc. I think people forget that the QB must not only have talent, but they must lead.
    • I wish I knew more details, but the NIL money to 20-year olds combined with easy access to gambling sites is a side effect that these kids may not have considered.  To your point,A famous 2009 Sports Illustrated article titled “How (and Why) Athletes Go Broke” estimated that 78% of retired NFL players go bankrupt or face significant financial stress within two years of leaving the league.  I am guessing that ego and $$$ and the thrill of competition (most pro athletes love competition because they are the winners) makes it a powerful temptation.  Throw in the ease of gambling on your phone which is always in your hand, and I see your point x 10.
