Video: McCaffrey's Message to Panthers Fans

I personally was hoping to trade down and maybe picking up an additional 2nd round pick and possibly getting OJ Howard however this pick is growing on me rather nicely. I'm liking the comparison that the commentators made comparing him to Le'Veon Bell. While he might not being plowing through people and breaking tons of tackles he has the ability to find a hole in the line and get through it before the defense knows what hit them. With this comparison being made I just hope he can stay healthier than Bell who has only played 21 out of 35 games including playoffs the last two season.

When the pick came in I jumped off the couch and yelled "Hell yes" or "Damn right" or whatever, I can't remember.  Point is my wife looked up from the Facebook and said "Who is that"?

I told her who it was and she said, "Ain't that the guy you have been talking to all of your buddies about"?

I confirmed and she said, "He looks likes he is pretty good."

She stared at the TV until they moved on to the next player.

My Wife: "He's cute. Really cute."

My Daughter (age 19): "He's hot. Who is he?"

Me: "The player the Panthers just drafted."

Wife: "Does he play tight end?"

Me (ignoring the obvious set up): "No. He's a runningback."

Daughter: "Does he have a tight end?"

Wife: "I bet he does."

Daughter: "Maybe I should watch more football."

Me: (annoyed face)

    • DeAngelo Williams: 1515 yards (2008) Steven Davis: 1444 yards (2003) Christian McCaffrey: 1387 yards (2019) Chuba Hubbard: 1195 yards (2024) Jonathan Stewart: 1133 yards (2009)   DeAngelo Williams 1515 yards in 2008 are most in Panthers history for a season this was when Double Trouble was at it's height. That year he averaged 94 yards a game. Steven Davis missed 2 games 2003 so he comes in at the most yards per game in a season at 103 yards. Mccaffrey averaged 86 yards a game in his 2019 campaign he also recorded 1005 yards receiving making his season statistically the best in Panthers history for a RB, had the Panthers had a better record he could have been a favorite for MVP. Dowdle currently is averaging 81 yards a game despite only starting 3 games thus far. In the games he has started 206, 183, 130 he's averaging 173 yards. In Green Bay he rushed for 130 despite having a 21 yard run wiped out due to illegal procedure penalty that could of saw a 150 yard day.    Top 5 yards per carry. Dowdle 5:6 (2025) Williams: 5.5 (2008) Stewart: 5.1 (2009) Mccaffrey: 4.8 (2019) Hubbard: 4.7 (2024) If Dowdle continues even close to the pace he's on he's poised to break DeAngelo Williams single season Panther rushing record.
    • The BY9 situation is classic sunk cost fallacy. We traded premium assets to get him. Every few games he flashes the traits that made him appealing (quick reads, touch, composure) but the macro picture doesnt lie. Hes producing at a bottom-tier level across efficiency metrics in yards per attempt, EPA/play, completion percentage over expected, and explosive plays. Instead of objectively reassessing, the organization continues to justify the investment - new coaches, new systems, new excuses - trying to salvage what was invested. Giving him a 5th year is a self inflicted would.  We need to take our lumps and move on
