Look at every other receiver's stats on the team, including Olsen. Everyone (including KB) was right around their typical averages. It was Funchess and Philly who fell off a cliff. Philly is gone. I don't think Funchess is safe.

Nope, the real # 1 is Greg Olsen but if we are talkng about WR strictly then it will got too Curtis or Ross

Benjamin is just little bit overwieght but  he will perfectly fine for camp.

2015 season:

CAM:     3,837 yds   35 TDs

J-Stew:     989 yds     6 TDs

Olsen:     1104 yds     7 TDs

Ginn:        739 yds    10 TDs

Funch:      473 yds      5 TDs

Brown:      447 yds      4 TDs

KB (2014):  1,008 yds 9 TDs

2016 season:

CAM:     3,509 yds   35 TDs

J-Stew:     824 yds     9 TDs

Olsen:     1073 yds     3 TDs

Ginn:        752 yds      4 TDs

Funch:      371 yds      4TDs

Brown:      276 yds      1 TDs

KB:            941 yds      7 TDs

If something happens to KB I believe Fred Ross will win the #1 spot and Curtis Samuel will be #2.

Funches is good depth player but he hasn't lived up to his potential due to his limited skill set (even though DG claimed he could play all X,Y & Z.

Is there anything we can hang our hat on with Funchess other than his age?

I'd feel differently if he showed signs of improvement. He didn't. It was the opposite. He was awful last year. Truly one of the worst WRs in the league. This after an offseason when he was getting tons of praise for his development and was being talked up as a potential challenger to KB's #1 role. Then the season got here and... yikes. Just awful.

I just want to hear someone make an argument for Funchess that doesn't hinge on his age.

I'm not saying cut the guy right now, that would be crazy. No reason not to take him to camp. But, his job shouldn't be safe. If he's fighting for a roster spot and there's a better guy, forget the age and his former draft position. Keep the best football players.

I don't think he's a technically sound player yet. And it is just my opinion but when I see him I do see the athleticism. Usually when he catches a pass he's in space and there were definitely times this past season he flew down field open and Cam either didn't see him or didn't have time to.

The fact he coudnt beat Brown and Ginn speaks volume, he is overvalued by Huddlers

The hate on KB is unnecessary  for a guy who actually produces

That could be true but we know that Rivera has loyalty to his vets. Mike Tolbert was on this team wayyyy past his prime.

Looks like Panthers aren't  playing around this year, DG has come to terms of letting players go that haven't  panned out.

Is Devin Funchess the next causality with the amount of quality  depth we have at WR.

Many Huddles are on KB weight issue he still has performed at high level and can actually play  "X" WR role unlike Funchess.

Panthers should cut Funchess and bring in 2nd TE incase of injuries to KB or Olsen

I'll buy you a Funchess jersey after he balls out this season. LMAO.

Not saying funchess will necessarily be great, but you can't expect every player to immediately be good.

I'd feel differently if he showed improvement last year. 93 NFL WRs received 50+ pass attempts last season. Of those 93 players, Devin Funchess caught the lowest percentage of those attempts. His 40% figure would've been second to last in the 2015 season. The player who was ranked below him played for two different teams that season and has been out of the league since the end of 2015.

I'm truly not joking when I say that Funchess was one of the worst WRs in the NFL last year.

our entire offense was poo last season

I'm throwing those stats out the window, especially regarding Cam's atrocious numbers.

Look at the other guys' numbers. KB was right around where he was his rookie season even playing out of shape and coming off of an ACL. Olsen was right there too. Ginn too. Hell, Ginn actually had the highest catch percentage of any WR on the team. Maybe it's because he was the only WR on the roster who could create separation? It was Funchess and Philly who fell flat on their faces.

if Funchess doesn't improve next year it'll be a discussion, at this point you have to give him another year

At this point, I'd only be willing to give him another training camp and preseason. I wouldn't release a better football player to keep Funchess. I think Funchess will probably be on the final roster, but I wouldn't be willing to guarantee it.

That's stupid! I haven't seen not one person over value Funchess. What U have heard people say is that he's young and was even younger coming out of Michigan where his main position was tight end.

You can talk all the poo you want about him not beating out Ginn or Brown, but you know what speaks more volumes? The fact that he is here and they are gone.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with developing a player, particularly a young one, and, even more, one who essentially played another position collegiately. Some things you can't rush! Gettleman, Rivera and most educated fans know that this is the time for Funchess to step up. It wasn't last year with a seasoned Y receiver like Ginn on the squad. It wasn't a rookie year where Funchess was essentially beyond raw. It's this year. He'll get his opportunity to really make the case to start, or he'll become a pick that should never have been made. Even those who don't like Funchess---who want to eject him prematurely---should be able to understand that!
