Cyrus Kouandjio just released by Bills

Recommended Posts

Bills fans seem pretty upset about his release.  Some quotes from their initial reactions:

"They couldn't move him for even a 6th or 7th? Smh" "Yeah, that's crazy, i thought he had value as a backup LT. Hopefully no one gets injured."

"That sucks, he was really solid when he played last year. Thought he had a chance to start"

"too bad about Kouandjio after actually showing promise last season."

"For those not in the know, he was a medium hype LT prospect with some injury concerns that the Bills snagged in 2014 round 2. We have a high quality starting LT in Cordy Glenn, but perennial RT problems. He was abysmal at RT, losing out to Seantrel Henderson and then Jordan Mills so we wrote him off. Last year, Cordy went down and Kouandjio stepped in at LT and was actually pretty good, leading most people to think he just couldn't figure out the side switch. He was solid LT depth, which I don't think we have now, unless Dion Dawkins goes off. There's a real chance he could be a LT upgrade for teams that are struggling at the position."

We currently have 7 tackles on the roster.  Can't tell me he wouldn't compete for a backup spot if Oher is done.  Blaine Clausell, Dan France, and Tyrus Thompson likely aren't the answer.  I would roll the dice on him.

Between Kouandijio and Oher, maybe we get lucky.

Kouandijio is 23 years old.... 6'7" and 322 pounds.. .   Worst case scenario, he is a camp body.  Best case, he provides good depth at LT which we are seriously lacking.

This is kind of what you hear about most, not all, of Alabama linemen when they get to the NFL.  Not the mental problems, but a lot of them seem to be beaten up and almost used up before they every play a snap in the NFL.

Everyone screaming "sign him" only remember his name and when he was drafted and still fault Gettleman for not doing so himself.

Have no idea how disappointing he's been since he got into the league.

#FakeNews

He was still standing in a field in his underwear and worried somebody enough to call the police. Do you really want this guy? He was obviously cut for a reason. Teams don't draft players in the 1st round and not give them every chance to succeed. Are you really a PHD?

I just can't.  How can I argue with a guy who can't even prepare an informed argument.  Please, look up when Kouandjio was drafted and edit your post.

Who cares when he was drafted? He was obviously a bust and has mental problems.

We know absolutely nothing about the situation this young man found himself in except second hand reports.  On a side note, lets say he has depression, or BPD.  Does that automatically make him a bad football player? Could someone with, as you so eloquently stated "mental problems" be a good teammate and addition to the team?  Or does everyone with a mental condition need to be locked away in an asylum?

So why did they cut him then? There are plenty of teams who need help at tackle but they just outright cut a young player like that for no reason? I don't think so.

Again, we have no idea why he was cut.  Maybe a new headcoach and GM wouldn't want to deal with a locker-room distraction.  Maybe he asked to be released? Maybe he is secretly a kid cuisine dinner?

I trust our front office to do their due diligence.  6'7" 325 pound  men with his physical gifts do not grow on trees.  Maybe I have too much faith in John Matsko.  I tend to think he can make a tree stump serviceable.  He resurrected Oher's career.  Took an UDFA out of New Mexico who wasn't even invited to combine and made a ..... serviceable... tackle out of him.

    • I suspect the Vegas win total line will be around 7.5
    • I feel ya. The only thing I really disagree with is the catch. I have listened to plenty of analysis, have seen stills and of course video. I will never believe it was a catch, as Cooks did not secure the ball, which allowed the receivers hands in there and snatch the ball away. That wasn't a running situation. Knee down on the ground and ball in hands does not count. The process of the catch was not over. As far as OT, it is what it is. That's why it's a team sport. The D let him down in 13 seconds.
    • The hyperbole is amusing but ultimately nobody cares about press conferences. The Texans seem to be a fairly well ran organization with a solid coaching staff. If they're smart they'll buy low on Stroud and keep a backup plan. The rest of the roster around the QB is plenty capable. And as the playoff picture has shown this past year it doesn't take much to get into the dance for them. Remember when folks here were clowning them for having 2 wins early in the season? They still won another playoff game while we're still trying to get over the hump. As far as playoff meltdowns go. Sam Darnold had a meltdown against the Rams in the playoffs as the Vikings QB a year ago and most of us laughed our asses off at him and now he's a game away from the Super Bowl with the Seahawks while the Vikings sunk back to joke status. It's an unpredictable league.
