And another one. Thomas Davis wants a contract extension before Training Camp.

wait, really? the front office cost us 50?? man you are really a twat.

Are you talking about the SB? Yeah that was a collosal player execution problem for the most part. The coaches weren't making Tolbert fumble, weren't persuading Remmers to let himself constalty get immediately beat every snap by Von Miller , and weren't the ones who caused Cam to fumble and not be more aware of the pass rushers constantly trying to strip sack him all game long.

But you COULD say that its because they signed a guy like Remmers that played a huge role in those strip sacks that heavily contributed to the loss. But yeah most of it still was players playing really badly for whatever reason. I remember watching the SB and they all looked way too serious or stagefright IDK, like the spotlight was too big and they choked under the pressure. Pretty much everyone except for Stewart and Philly Brown.

We've been bullshitting with our OL, and resorting to mediocre bandaids along the line since Gross left. That was 5 years ago. Guys like Byron Bell, Nate Chandler, Mike Remmers, Amini Silatolu (who we brought back again, yayyyy), and even Sione Fua saw some time on our OL. Don't kid yourself, our QB made the OL, not the other way around. With even adequate protection in SB50, we win. I'm sorry if that reality hurts your feelings.

The only issue, Gettleman has already proven he doesn't give a damn.  The Steve Smith fiasco showed us that.

Idk think about the kind of leadership you'd lose w TD and/or Olsen compared to the kind of leadership we had to give up w 89. All are different kinds of leaders but I'd think that what TD and Olsen bring is a little more desirable.

50 was on the players and Shula/ron for not adjusting. The end

oops i forgot to mention the adjustments in my post. As soon as that first strip sack happened Shula should have been calling for short quick throws and more runs , and not long drop backs even after the fact. Even though that's not how the offense was ran most of the year he would have at least been trying something to mitigate that pass rush.

Exactly. Yes our line situation sucked, but we absolutely had enough talent on the field to win that game. I can't put that one on Gettleman. The whole team decided to play like poo at the worst possible moment

I think these guys like where they are and want 2 things - to get a contract extension because they like it here and convert some of their salary to guaranteed (bonus) money.  I'm sure the Panthers will accommodate them at a fair price.

I think you are right here. Older guys wanting protection from getting hurt or released and losing out on some of their contract.  Convert some of that to guaranteed money and remove some of the uncertainty that comes with knowing there isn't a next contract. I'd think that,  for these two, the front office wouldn't have too much of an issue with it. Neither is going to take the money and check out.

Also, would this not clear up money to try and resign one of the guards?

The Shula/Rivera effect has been discussed ad nauseum. We know their faults that have cost this team in various ways through games over the years.

But I think fans have also, intentionally or not, taken for granted what having a talent like Cam behind center has done for our OL these last several years. He has made some seriously mediocre guys that in no way should have been starting look serviceable at times by making absurd plays. Hell, who expected us to win 15 games let alone go to SB50 when KB went down, and Ginn JR became our top wideout? We caught lightning in a bottle in 2015, and our FO seemingly expected it to happen again because we have Cam Newton to compensate for deficiencies. Obviously it didn't work out that way as Newton was absolutely battered in game 1 of 2016 which ended up just looking like a bad rerun of SB50. Who could have predicted that, right?

    • The Falcons have 2 significant offensive line injuries to start the 2025 season. Right tackle Kaleb Mcgary (who is the blindside protector for Penix since he is left-handed) is going to miss significant time, and it's looking more like it may be all season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-expect-kaleb-mcgary-to-miss-significant-time https://x.com/BKsquared7/status/1959285822236107013. Also, the top backup and swing tackle, Storm Norton (cool name BTW) is having ankle surgery and may miss half the season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-ot-storm-norton-out-6-8-weeks-after-ankle-surgery I don't root for injuries, but its also hard to be too sympathetic given how badly injuries have hit us in recent years. We definitely need to get that W in week 3 for our home opener at BOA. Despite our collective frustration at not being able to attend TC and then having boring preseason games, ultimately the most important objective of the preseason is to enter Week1 healthy, and we have at least done that. Hopefully the depth we think we have at Oline either shines through or isn't needed. Many other teams are in a bad spot with their offensive lines before the season even starts. For once, we aren't in that situation.
    • That roster was billed as a super smart and strong unit for a young QB….until he sucked though.   it didn’t have superstars but it had proven vets that checked well all the safe boxes and it was universally agreed the Panthers were putting him into position to succeed. BY just doesn’t fit a traditional O because he isn’t built like a traditional QB.  And he still doesn’t.   CJ Stroud would have had more success here than Bryce with that cast.   CJ just has the tools that fit the NFL more easily.  Young can find success but I have always argued it would take a Bryce centric plan (which we have never attempted IMO)
    • looks like the Lions and Bangles should forget about the playoffs, trade everyone they can, and start over.
