yeah, Olsen deserved a new deal. TD too, but with injury and slowing down, TD seems to be the hitch in the giddy up.

i only said lazy because thats what a lot of people are assuming and it's taking it to the other extreme rather than hoping we get a guy in the middle. i of course jumped to that assumption as well but DG did have some swings and misses but more home runs than anything. as i get older, i have become less attached to players and care more about the team and the long term and fascinated with the building process.

this is what happened right before the wheels fell off in the hurney era, almost to the letter.  there was an untouchable core of players who asked for and got whatever they wanted and in at least one case (steve smith) they had more say than the coaches.

i mean if the players can pull it off, all the more power to them because the owners are making a killing off their skills and labor relative to what they're being paid.  but if you're a fan and the idea of long term sustainability in a salary capped league is appealing to you, well you should know what you're getting.

were not going back to a hurney style gm no way we already learned from that mistake we need a gm in the middle that doesnt neglect free agency and actually spends on decent players , i want an agressive gm look at gms like john elway , 

John Schneider and hell even tampas gm is making moves i want a gm like that

this is looking like an ownership problem and in that scenario it doesn't matter who the GM is.

anyway the guys you've mentioned have all done gettleman-ish stuff, you just noticed it more here because you're a panthers fan.  elway played hardball with brock osweiler and basically went into the 2016 season without a quarterback.  even though the broncos missed the playoffs i think that probably ultimately worked out in his favor considering how much he sucked in houston, but that was a big risk.  he also had a very tense stare-down with von miller that isn't all that different from what's happening with olsen and thomas davis right now. i was reading their boards and the fans were slamming both of them for it.  that was almost a training camp holdout too; he was pissed about being tagged and as far as i know never signed his tender before he was extended.

john schneider is a good GM but what he put russell wilson through last year was reminiscent of the bell/chandler debacle if not worse.  they went into last season essentially without a functional offensive line and didn't even try to resign russell okung.  they reportedly never even tabled an offer.

as for tampa who the hell cares.  they're supposed to have made their giant leap every year going all the way back to when josh freeman was there.  they haven't won a playoff game since 2002 and haven't made it since 2007.  we'll see if their awesome amazing moves pan out.

Lets be honest, Jr and hurney didn't overpay players until the whole lockout uncertainty fiasco. hurney was a decent cap manager until then. I remember Carolina releasing Muhammad (our first local icon) after his huge season. This notion that Carolina is all family, no business is false.
