I've never heard about a player begrudgingly hoisting the Lombardi trophy...

So giving Jake Delhomme that big extension after 2008 was the right thing to do?

I would have shitcanned Jake way sooner than that, so it wouldn't have been on the table. He was never the top at anything, other than lobbing it up for Steve Smith...

Comparing Olsen or TD to Jake effing Delhomme is like comparing apples to oranges.

Yeah definitely dude! Let's pay everyone way past their primes to keep everyone happy. That worked amazing with Marty Hurney.
I swear we might have the dumbest fan base in football. I can't imagine there being dumber.

Why can't you guys think there's a middle ground to this y'all are jumping ship and killing yourselves before anything has even happened what if we find someone who's just right then all of this death and despair talk was for no reason I think you're just going from one extreme to the next in your head when it doesn't have to be like that and I keep seeing people do this FOR NO REASON

Please present evidence that TD, Olsen, Turner, etc. are past their prime.

etc? like there is a long list of players here? Turner like he wasn't one of the biggest players primed to get a deal? And absolutely no one here is suggesting he is past his prime so why you are lumping him there is making you look like you're desperately reaching to make your point..  I get the love for Davis and Olsen but as a "fan" why are you looking at it from their stand point? They are looking out for themselves not the betterment of the team, otherwise their yearning for contract extensions would never have become public that caused distractions.

I haven't seen where they have asked for it, but Olsen most definitely is the 1-2 best TE in the league and should be paid accordingly. I don't think TD is asking for top money, just a longer contract?

If we need to trim the fat to get it done, so be it.

If it were as simple as "trimming the fat", none of this would have happened.

We're talking about not being able to extend good young players because we're giving "thank you" contracts to older ones.

Actually it's very accurate.

Again, you pay guys for what they're going to do in the future, not what they've done in the past.

I think we would both need details that's why this thread is kinda dumb. This is my fear tho. Olsen is already locked in for 2 more years. That's the contract that HE signed. This should be addressed next year. I'm not even sure if Thomas wants a pay raise, I haven't heard but the fear is that a Marty hurney type GM will just give him a buttload of money because of what he represents to the Panthers, not what his actual production will be until he retires. TD is the man, and in my opinion the greatest Panther of all time. But those are my fears and I think they are justified by the way this organization has been run before DG.

It's the same for every team, yet almost every year a team rises and becomes a contender.

Every team also loses players.. But you don't hear them bitch about it because the owner and previous GM didn't give them a false sense of being untouchable

I still haven't seen substantial evidence that either TD or Olsen, or Trai for that matter, have under performed.

If you don't want to pay guys for under performing, then we need to go ahead and cut KB, Funch, Dickson, etc.

I believe this was another issue DG was trying to force to Rivera to play certain type of football and that didn't mesh well with Rivera's scheme

Pay them regardless of whether they're performing because you like them...loss.

Well Olsen hasn't had less than 1 K in a season in how long .. and Thomas Davis is a great tackler still and he makes the team and locker room better, and he's getting a statue

Gettleman firing isn't paying players regardless of whether they're performing, this clearly, clearly isn't the case . We talking about performing players.

Uhhh because THOSE GUYS ARE ON MY TEAM.

I lumped Trai in there because you know he needs a deal just like I know TD and Olsen need theirs.

it's a coin flip as to whether a "middle ground" GM would have even kept thomas davis here at all after his three ACL tears.

i'll unequivocally say that gettleman would have canned him.  hurney obviously didn't.

Or Jerry told hurney to keep him here

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
