USA Today; Panther 7-9....last place NFC South

We're in a tough division and we have a few question marks on our team.  I'm not saying we will be the bottom of the division.. but until we can see how Cam's shoulder has healed, and if Kalil can protect him - we really can't say.

We are loaded with talent and if Cam/Kalil are 100% then I see no reason why we can't win the division, but I'm still a little nervous about both of those.

The FO shakeup hasn't helped either.  I can't wait for training camp to start to see how all the new team pieces are put into action!

That's right boys and girls, they think we will suck again. Falcons, Bucs. Aints, then us. They say Cam has a rebuilt shoulder and the offense is unknown. Great stuff to put up on the locker room.

They are not wrong. We dont know how well Cam will be come the start of the season, and we don't know how the rookies so many are high on will make the transition to the NFL....all of that coupled with this bullshit about G-Man fired, and the news that will cover that and mess with our camp. 7-9 seems a bit conservative considering our schedule. I am thinking more like 10-6. With that said...despite all the TALENT we have, talent alone doesnt win games and earn respect.

Too many ppl expecting greatness from rookies! I sure as hell hope we can, but lets not pretend that we dont have issues to warrant such an appraisal.

Think this was written by someone out of New England.  Patriots 16-0.  Yeah Right.  Whoever wrote this has no business writing about football.

The guy who wrote the article did an interview on Primtime yesterday and actually came off rather intelligent / knowledgeable. He basically went through all the games of the year on a game by game basis and "predicted" the winner. Tallied up the wins and loses and there it was.

His reasoning behind the 16-0 for the Pats was that there wasn't a team that the Pats faced that he felt he would take over the Pats in any given game. Made the point that he wouldn't put money on a 16-0 and season but that they only lost 1 game with Brady at QB last year. Sure they will most likely slip up along the way but look at their schedule and point out the better team that should beat them in a certain game given what is known today. With that logic, it kind makes sense.

Here is the interview:

We were ten points from 10-6 last year. Why is it that the Saints always get  some pass? They will finish last at 6-10

Pssst...every other team in the league is 10 points from 10-6.

The saints completely turned over the roster and got younger. Meanwhile the Panthers are still relying on old aging vets.

    • Ok--I have seen some sample items, and I would like to see something (if possible) measures on field intelligence--maybe how quickly you can grasp a playbook or absorb film session adjustments...Back when we had Morrison as team president and Hurney as GM, I offered to assess (as part of my research in education requirement at a University) emotional intelligence and learning styles of players to help coaches teach more effectively.  Morrison loved it and contacted me about it.  Hurney was not interested, and it fell through the cracks.  My pitch?  If only 50% of first-rounders become successful NFL players and that number drops significantly, can you tell me that you are effectively measuring talent?  Morrison thought it was a good point and wanted to do something that might improve long-term success rates--that would impact the cap management, etc.  Marty, according to Morrison, said he was not interested at this time and if so, he would want a football guy to do it.  (I told Morrison that I played in college and Hurney, a sports reporter at one time, did not. He told me that Hurney played as a Guard in college--who knew?) Any way, about that time, Morrison left (2017) and the idea was dropped.  I reached back out a year later or so to Marty was still not interested.  A few days later, his wife accused him of assault or something, so I dropped it.
    • Pretty sure they still do the Wonderlic they just don't publicly release the scores.
    • I just thought he was under the radar--but thanks for opening our eyes to him.  I think we should have better measures for intelligence--such as reaction time, angles, etc. Legette is raw as heck, for example, and his RAS was very high.  We used to do the Wonderlic (which was not great) but to know how effectively a player makes on field decisions would be great.
