It doesn't, asswipe. Keenum was only one example. What about The Golden Calf of Bristol? Or Bowers? Or A.Curry? Or V.Gholston? Or T.Richardson? Or Manuel? Or J.Russell? Or Leinart? Or C.Rogers? C.Benson? T.Williamson?

No matter how you spin it, college doesn't mean poo.

Really want to make a comparison of round 1-3 players compared to round 5-7 and undrafted players?!?

Lmao

If Barnett keeps up this type of play in the regular season (same as he was in college) it is going to take an insane amount of production for CMC to even halfway makeup for passing on Barnett.

Which I am not sure is even possible if Barnett continues to be a terror off the edge.

This wasn't drafting Bruce Nelson over Jason Witten (that one still stings). It looks like CMC and Barnett will both be good players and that's awesome for Panthers and Eagles fans. Maybe this will be similar to OBJ/Mack in 2014. I'm sure there were Raiders fans who wanted OBJ, but they got a great one in Mack.

An elite edge rusher is considerably more valuable than an elite HB.

At least in my opinion.

DE is a top 3 position in the NFL.

Games are won and lost in the trenches.

I seriously doubt Derrick Barnett will be an elite pass rusher. He doesn't have the size of Bosa or Danielle Hunter or the speed of Everson Griffen. I compare him to our Charles Johnson, might make 1-2 pro bowls, good leader,  and put up some 10 sack seasons. McCaffery's ceiling is higher.

Barnett has better bend, hands, and finish than those guys, as good as they are.  Barnett is this generation's Terrell Suggs from a tenacity, motor, and production standpoint.

Not all about size. Plenty of guys with awesome size, speed, and athleticism who sucked.

Skill, technique and IQ are more important.

The 3rd string QB for JAX is a better player than the guys in front of him.

The Jags coach has declared it an open competition. I would anticipate something like alternating series of Bortles and Henne in their next game. Kind of crazy to think the Panthers Defense could go a long way to determine the Jacksonville starting quarterback on Thursday night.

That's not my point. His lack of athleticism will prevent him from reaching that elite tier. You look at Watt, Peppers, Mario Williams, Mack, Miller, etc. They can combine their skill and technique with their physical advantage to dominate games. I'm not saying Barnett will be bad but I don't see 15+ sacks and all pro nods from him.

Dude has the best bend and is very quick off the edge. Not to mention some great hands and motor.

Had one of the best 3 cone drills for DL in the draft.

Dude is more than capable of being an elite DE.

Don't tell me you're one of those guys who thinks just because someone's drafted high means he's good.

How many Everette Browns, Armanti Edwards, and Jimmy Clausens do we have to go through so that you understand there can easily be busts that high.

I am the type of guy who understands and knows 1) anyone drafted high, low, undrafted can be great or suck and 2) that more often than not, higher drafted guys out perform lower drafted / undrafted guys.

Brown had a lackluster or poor 3 cone time.

Armanti Edwards wasnt even a WR in college.

Clausen was less than stellar his first 2 years and even in his 3rd his team barely had a .500 record.

At the end of the day, I will take elite college production, skill, technique and IQ over raw size and athleticism any day.

Who wants to bet Garrett has more sacks and production than Barnett this season? Ill make a bet with you.

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
