Gruden now 2-1 odds to be next Tennessee Vols coach, only a return to Tampa stands in way?

I'll be shocked if he goes back to coaching at this point. Especially at the college level. Why would a Super Bowl winning coach with a well paying cushy TV gig want to take a job  where he'll have to work his tail off kissing the asses of HS kids? Because the biggest part of college football is recruiting. It isn't the X's and O's, it's the Jimmy's and the Joe's.

If they even did a half assed job giving him the salary and assistants he’d demand, luring recruits for him would be candy from a baby easy.

Probably what Bill Callahan, Charlie Weis, etc. thought too.

etc.=Nick Saban?

None of the above have been Super Bowl WINNING HEAD COACHES or have the charisma/like-ability of Gruden either, to say the least.

Jon Gruden is supposed to come back and be a coach every year since he retired.

Right and this would seem to be the same as always except real money is changing fast as REAL odds have DRASTICALLY changed.

    • It's definitely a historical issue at QB but to be perfectly blunt, we also don't do a good job of really developing almost any position if you look at the last decade or so. I tend to be on the side of that being far less a development issue than an evaluation deficiency.  I think we are in the situation at QB2/3 recently due to the overall roster being absolutely abhorrent and the QB classes being quite thin. It is harder to justify another Matt Corral(or several) when you can potentially get a real two deep contributor at other positions.  But, it was a lot of hard work to get to the point where are roster is so incredibly bad that luxury picks literally are not in our vocabulary.  This is the reaping what you sow portion of our history.
    • That is what I meant about our front office. They are like someone filling out a March Madness bracket based on preference of uniform colors and mascots. There's no rhyme of reason to some of these fugg'n mind numbing decisions they make.  They go all in on these flimsy-@ss prospects and are gun shy when it comes to more solid prospects.  It's literally maddening and the reason I stopped being so emotionally involved in this team. Heck the only reason I'm active on the board today is one, it's my day off and two, it's cut down time.
