If the Panthers lose this week to the Bucs...

What is your definition of season over? My stance is 1-3 teams who struggle to beat 1 of the 5 worst teams in the NFL do not win Superbowl's.

The only reason I asked if the season would be over is, the Panthers, fresh off a lucky win against Washington, will be facing an arguably worse team in the 0-5 Buccaneers. A loss against Tampa would drop the Panthers to a devastating 1-4 record, matching last years loss total in Week 6. I wouldn't be surprised if the team imploded after a loss to a team like that. The first three teams the Panthers played this year were quality opponents; they all had winning records last year and have winning records currently. Just saying, if you can't match up against quality opponents, let alone the inferior ones, I would consider the season over.

The Steelers led the entire game and they did not loose 3 games in a row prior to struggling against the Browns. Nice try though.

Indeed. Where's the rep button?

To simplify for the dreamers, there are 8 teams we can realistically beat. They are, in no particular order of sucking: Buffalo, Cleveland, Oakland, KC, Washington (done - bam!), Detroit, Tampa Bay, and St. Louis. We have the good fortune to face two of these murderee's row the next two weeks.

On the flip side, their fans have us circled as well.

We could be 3-3. It is possible. I look forward to the misplaced optimism if that happens.

The last 10 games, however? 8 losses. We'll sneak a couple wins.

5-11.

There are 5 teams that are undefeated at present. They will not be as the season progresses. Many other teams are struggling, they cannot establish any consistency. If we don't beat the Bucs, it is unrealistic that this will be a winning season. However, a win puts us at 2-3, and if we stay healthy, who knows? It is time to see if Fox and the coaches can rally the guys. I still think some wrinkles on offense and special teams would go a long way towards curing what ails us. Our third down efficiency has to get much better, and fast.

I mean, if you can't beat poo teams...it means you are one. A loss here or next week and they are playing for pride and future jobs from that point on.

reality is the season is already over....

put if we want to be optmistic they need to get to 3-3

Well said...

The latter part, well, it's never over at this point of the season. But it certainly doesn't look too good at the moment. It's very possible our OLine clicks and we start picking it up. But at some point very soon that will have to happen.

The season is never over you just build for next season.

and if you have to get poetic about it.. this works too.. :)

Can't believe all the "it's over", throw in the towel responses. :nonod:

They're taking the easy way out; just give up on the team instead of actually pulling for them.

I don't even know why I bother to read the posts, really.

I can see how it looks like there are no more fans around here.. but I'm pretty sure they aren't bitching because they don't care.

I can only speak for myself... Unless the OLine gets it together, at this pace, the season will be very close to over.. Does that mean I'm giving up my tickets to the 1 game I can make to see them? Hell no. Do I quit watching them religiously and watching closely to see where the success and failure exists? Hell no..

At this rate, the team is going to struggle for every possible win... It's just the simple truth. Is it too late to turn it around? Absolutely not... But don't take "it better happen very soon or it's over" to mean anything other than an observation...

I can only back up my viewpoint.. I'm sure there some around here who have quit watching, but even the most pessimistic don't necessarily fall in that category...

lol dude get over yourself

Just because people like myself know this team is shitty doesn't mean we don't root for them. If you can't accept that this team is bad then maybe you had trouble accepting that Santa Claus isn't real and the Easter Bunny is full of poo. Well, I, like most people, am able to see that and recognize it, yet still enjoy the holiday.

Same thing with the Panthers. They're shitty. They're not winning anything beyond a few games this year. However, I'll still root for them every week and watch the games for the young talent that we should hopefully see as this team plays out the season. If you're gonna have that holier than thou attitude about how you "believe" in them or some bullshit, just save it dude. Nobody wants to hear it. You're not any more of a "real" fan than the rest of us that root for this team without being retarded.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
