Redskins shopping Anthony Montgomery

I know we got Thomas..but Montgomery is younger..and could be more than a stop gap

Redskins defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery was displaced in the starting lineup by Albert Haynesworth this offseason, and now might be sent right off the roster.

A league source tells PFT's Mike Florio that Montgomery is being shopped in advance of next week's trading deadline.

I started a thread about this weeks ago. I can't remember who originally speculated about it, and who I sourced. I think he's been shopped for a while and the Panthers probably took a look at him and passed for some reason. Can't find the thread since the search function is disabled.

Here it is. Weren't shopping him back then, just Czarnecki noting that Montgomery was unhappy and that the Panthers might be a good landing spot.

I wouldn't mind picking him up but I doubt we would make a move for him. We've already picked up a few guys (Harris, Thomas, Leonard). I don't see how we could make room for him. He would be a good sign though. MAYBE IF WE CUT HAYDEN.

i dont think we cut hayden just because he may be the backup 3tech...we could cut burton

i think this would be a great pick up...but in ya'llz opinion is there any chance this will happen cuz i got real excited when i thought we'd go after shaun smith and that didn't happen

just a tip, I wouldn't ever get my hopes up until you see it reported in the form of "Panthers sign ....."

There are a lot of rumors around here and mostly saying, "should we get this guy"...

    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
    • They will still be a playoff team but they aren't contenders anymore IMO. They won't be able to spend like they have when they went to a SB and proved he couldn't carry a win at that level with a really good team around him. Now he is going to have to do it with less to spend around him. They just locked in to being a playoff bound team that's going to be a known speed bump for whoever will represent the NFC in the SB.
    • Hmm. I think he'll live up to it. Last year, about half of his team was on IR it seems, at one time or another. Year before, Super Bowl appearance. Year before that, playoff run after being third on the depth chart and being pressed into service. Is he one of the greatest in the game right now? Nope. No chance of that. Is he in the top 10 going into next season? Pretty good chance of that.  Would 20 or more teams in this league love to have the guy as their starting QB. Most likely so. He's a good QB who can implement his coach's game plan to a T and has both the confidence of and confidence in his teammates. That'll take you a long way in this league if you've got the right cast around you, and he does.
