Got a Giants Feeling right now

Recommended Posts

Right now I feel like we caught the WR bug that the Giants did.  Giants suffered without OBJ and Brandon Marshall for most of the season. We were just starting to get a groove when Samuel went down, Byrd steps in and looks like a budding star and he goes down.

That said.   What college WR is a surefire starter, a la Bechman or Green or Jones?   Are they out of our reach at 25 or 26.  If we draft a WR in round one I don't want another WR that is going to take a year or two or three to develop as an NFL WR.  We need a #1 now if he is available.  Do we package our extra 3rd and move up a couple spots?

Funchess looked like he was headed for a 1000 yds until we lost Samuel.   As the #1 WR without any speed on the other side is having his difficulties getting open with the speed at #2.

I think we have other needs such as a starting LT or a premier edge rusher.

Working overseas makes it difficult to follow college football the way some of you do and this forum is about as split as you can get when it comes to our #1 need including Safety which I didn't mention.

Most pro ready is probably Ridley out of Alabama but he's too old IMO to spend a first rounder on him.

I'd watch the cuts and trade targets from other teams and look for a WR to take a particular role later in the draft.  Speedsters are on the roster just injured so I'd look for an upgrade over Shepard to fill the Cotchery slot role. (someone like a Daesean Hamilton out of Penn State).

I don't think we should invest anything big on a WR this offseason. Especially not in the draft. Keep Funchess as your #1 and put Samuel in the slot. Add a #2 WR through free agency and pick two to keep out of Byrd/Bersin/Sheppard and Clay. I'd definetly draft a TE in the first 3 rounds though.

I'd rather find a #1 and keep Funchess as #2

I am ok with Bersin/Shepard and Clay but Byrd is, at minimum, our best special team player and has shown some flashes at WR.   He would be a great #3 or #4.

We have a legitmate Punt and Kickoff returner for the first time in God knows how long.  Ginn had one a couple years ago but that was a fluke more than outright talent.  And I can't even remember the name of the RB that returned a kickoff for a TD.

Byrd has a spot on this team IMO.

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
