Seahawks may embrace a college-style offense

As the Seahawks try to take their offense to the next level, they could be going down one level.

There’s talk in league circles that the Seahawks are considering the implementation of a college-style offense, one that takes full advantage of quarterback Russell Wilson‘s mobility.

In past years, Wilson used his legs when things broke down. Moving forward, the goal could be to make Wilson’s running skills not the last resort but the predetermined plan.

If that’s the approach, it makes sense. Instead of trying to wedge Wilson’s abilities into a system that fully utilizes them only in the event of emergency, why not unleash them as part of the design?

The potential plan to use a college-style offense could explain the team’s interest in Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, who per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is one of the candidates for the job. The Philly offense has those college concepts, as the Broncos and cornerback Chris Harris Jr. realized the hard way during the regular season.

They want to make things easier for Russell, but will it get the job done is all that matters. John is who I wanted as our OC

Russell has played in a "pro style" offense all through college...I don't really understand why they feel they need a "college offense" to get it rolling...unless that style puts less stress on the O line?

I honestly think Pete Carroll knows as much about offense as Ron Rivera does.

The Cowboys tried something like this with Quincy Carter, but that had more to do with Carter not being bright enough to pick up a pro-style offense than it did anything else.

Wilson has shown he can run a pro-style offense, so this doesn't exactly strike me as a smart move.

Yea, just makes 0 sense.

And I tend to agree with you about Carroll and Rivera, great defensive minds, but struggle with offenses like crazy.

Just another part about Belichick that I have to admire.  He is a great defensive mind in addition to really understanding special teams and offense...just a brilliant coach.

wilson is at his best in panic mode where he is able to scramble and fling balls into the air that miraculously land in his receivers hands.

so the plan is to run a system that keeps him in panic mode? interesting.

At this point, you can't call those throws miraculous, he just makes them far too often for that.

He may be one of the better "scrambling QB's" I have ever seen to be honest.

I'm not so sure I buy that when he throws them up without even looking at where he's throwing them the majority of the time, unless he has eyes in the back of his head that is.

I understand where this is coming from, but the dude finds ways to do that over and over...1st season or 2, I can see it, but we are deep into his career, and he keeps on doing it.

Seems to have a knack for it, and they likely coach the WR's to be better at it than most of the league does.  Ours certainly would rarely start working back to Cam once he gets in trouble, but Russell's do.

I'm sure coaching has a lot to do with it.  I wouldn't be surprised if they don't practice that poo.

    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
