We can’t go into next year with a Worley/Bradberry CB tandem

How can you hate a guy for demanding his market value? We signed Russell Shepherd to a nearly identical contract that Ted Ginn signed in N.O. It's 100% our own fault. We paid the wrong guy.

Ginn's catching  percentages was crap here.  Had he caught half of his passes HERE,  you could blame us.   I will tell you right now, if he could catch while he was here, he would still be here.  That said, Ginn is  4.5 against the cap, Shepherd is 3.5 .

and my favorite:

Ted Ginn Jr. has frustrated many teammates, coaches and fans with dropped passes over the years, but his latest flub was extremely costly to his Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. Facing second-and-10 from the Denver Broncos’ 28-yard line in the third quarter Sunday, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton threw a bullet to Ginn, who unfortunately for Carolina let it slip through his hands to a waiting opponent, T.J. Ward

In 2017 he had the highest catch percentage in the league:

Ginn can shove it.

yea it definitely sucks when you dont get the best out of a player and they end up balling out for another team afterwards.

On a human level and less selfish panther fan mode, good for him for finally finding a way to solve his dropsies. We dont really know what happened when he went to NO, maybe he got some sort of special trainer or program down there that helped him with his hands somehow. Also helped that he had Drew Brees throwing him the ball, one of the if not the best pure passer in the games history.

Sure, on a human level, I wish him and family the best. On the field...... I just hate seeing him play well for the Aints.  Drop a pass already Ted, at least against us.  Jerk.

We were better in 2017 without him than 2016 with him.  Sure, 2015 we were great, but most agree that is because  the defense forced turnovers more than anything else.  Yes he added value, but he also dropped a lot.  Wish he caught 76.8% of his passes then.

In 2016 he had the highest catch percentage of any WR on our roster. Yes, his catch percentage is even hogher in N.O. but he was already our best WR in that category.

If you narrow it to just wide receivers, true....but not by much... a couple % points more than Benjamin.  Catch % is catches/targets, so deflections and bad passes are in there.    In 2016 he was the WORST in actual drops in the category, by far, almost 3 times the closest.   He was also the worst in drop percentage.

And that was an improvement over 2015, when he had twice as many drops and twice the drop % (one of the worst in the league).  Did he improve...yes.

If you include Olson,  he looks really really bad either year and did not have the highest catch %.

He was not a star receiver here. He was this year with the Aints.     I was sad when he left, but not alarmed.  Did you post somewhere that this was a huge mistake?     It apparently turned out to be one.

He was a ally, now he's an Aint, so fug him with the rest of them.  Of course, if he wants to come back, I'll welcome him with open arms and hopefully he'll bring the same hands back from NO.

This stat from Pantherswire says it all

55 Pass breakups

Carolina finished dead last in the NFL with only 55 pass breakups in 2017. Max Henson says getting more will be a point of emphasisfor new defensive coordinator Eric Washington.

The Panthers may have put too much pressure on their defensive backs in Steve Wilks’ blitz-happy scheme. Some shifts in strategy by Washington will help, but what the team really needs is an upgrade of talent at both safety and cornerback. Coverage, range and ball skills in particular are sorely lacking with this group. Carolina has to find players who bring all of those qualities to the table, preferably from the draft where they will come cheap.

I agree Worley can't be a starter next year, but Bradberry is good enough to be a #2. Wilks system relied too much on blitzing, which exposed this secondary. With him gone, our secondary will instantly improve whether Washington is good or bad.  I think a lot of Panthers fans are way too quick to write them off.

If you can't run man in this league, kiss a SB goodbye unless you got 3 pro-bowlers like the Seahawks at one point(but the difference Sherman locked his side of the field down) or one nasty pass-rush which really only happens so often. Your D has to be diverse and do it all.

I agree.  Some are saying just wait as corners need 3 years to develop.  I'm not sure I'm there.

I’ll keep saying it in hopes that it will happen. Cut Coleman and upgrade/move Worley.

I'm not a fan of PFF as they don't account for the situation, but sometimes they confirm what we already knew.  PFF ratings:

Daryl Worley: 58.9 rating – No. 89 CB

Captain Munnerlyn: 48.3 rating – No. 100 CB

James Bradberry: 42.4 rating – No. 109 CB

Kevon Seymour: 41.9 rating – No. 110 safety

Mike Adams: 82.3 rating – No. 26 safety

Kurt Coleman: 47.0 rating – No. 76 safety

I would hesitate before I said Worely was much better than Bradberry.  I would agree that Adams had a pretty good year, even if he intercepted one too many.  I hesitate on Coleman he was battling an MCL injury this year and was awesome in 2015 with 7 interceptions.

This year Bradberry didn't look much better than Worely, but we did give him the tougher load.

We did blitz a lot this year, 50% of the time on 3rd down and 43% of the time overall.   This nearly double the 2016 rate.  But our defense was better in 2017, than 2016.  Was it the blitz, a healthier Kuechley, more experience at corner, or the addition Peppers and  Adams?  I guess we'll see.

You just stuck it to the team that didn't want to pay you what you were worth. I'd gloat too.
