Senior Bowl's coming up, let's talk about D.J. Chark

You just described Demaryius Thomas coming out bruh

Now I'm not saying he's the next DT but they're eerily similar.

I get your concern, there's plenty of combine warriors and mesurable guys, and he body catches a ton. But there's a lot to like about him. He's got a lot of stuff you can't teach at WR, size, speed, great tracking. Yeah he'd have to learn a lot more but the upside is there.

I'd still want a vet. Say we get Chark I'd honestly love Landry. Would you complain about a WR core of Funch-Chark-Landry-Samuel-Byrd?

Why is Landry on that list? Haven’t we moved past completely unrealistic options. And that is not a shot at Landry so please, no one go off telling me how good he is. It’s about cost and fit.

That's on me. I think I got DT and Stephen Hill mixed up since they're both from GT and both Rose from strong combines

No problem.. Other than Megatron being a freak .. A lot of Gtech WR were built the same way.

This guy might turn out to be good.. He just has A lot of red flags "to me"..

But enough upside to justify a 3rd,  just like Bryant.

I get it. I really do. There's a lot of combine numbers and tbh I wasn't expecting Chark's 40 time to be that good. However I really think he's slightly more polished than a Kevin White or Breeshad Perriman who were really just big fast guys. And I think he has kind of a Keenan Allen situation going on because LSU has some...questionable QB play. Plus they had Guice so.

But I'm honestly just a guy watching yt videos and that's my opinion. I think he'd help the team and he has the potential to be good, but I'm not blind to the red flags either.

Again your opinion.. I don't see it..

3rd round sounds like a really big gamble based off underwater Olympics and s simulated game.

Comps are irrelevant in general.  Just something pretty for the public.

Come on Dawg.. You are better than this.. Just admit the 40' and the size got you excited .. You may have been eyeing him since the senior bowl but the measurement and speed got you looking over and excusing.. Some clearly visible red flags.. You know the rule..

The combine and pro day only confirms what you see on tape ... Not the other way around...

I wanted us to take Martavis Bryant also,  but Pittsburgh did.  Someone will be smart enough to take a chance on Chark.  It may as well be us.  Like you said,  I was looking at him actually since before the Senior Bowl as is evidenced by this thread which put him on my radar.  He has done nothing since then except shine, which is exactly what he's supposed to do.  And that's different,  regardless how you want to make light of it.  You act like he has bad tape,  but the fact is is that he doesn't. If he makes good impressions during workouts,  then that will solidify my thoughts that he is an excellent prospect at a position of great need. Sure,  size and speed are nice,  but there are other intangibles,  the main thing for me is whether I believe he has the it factor or not.  He is headed that way, and if he continues to shine during his pro day and individual team workouts,  there would be little basis not  to give him serious consideration on day two. I'm certainly not going to be stupid and say that he's no good based upon Stephen Hill or anyone else you can think of.  That's not a smart way to evaluate.  It's simply not. You know this.

Why would anyone in his right mind preclude a guy from consideration who is not only a high character,  coachable kid,  who is doing exactly what he's supposed to do when given the opportunity? It makes no sense.

I understand red flags,  but like I said, that's what all this poo is for.

    • I see they blamed Slavin for the goal like I did.
    • See this is the problem, you say "can't get off the line quick" and "can't separate quick" but in reality it's "he can get off the line better and create more separation" which are two completely different things. If he couldn't get off the line or separate, he wouldn't have put up the numbers he did and end up a Top 10 pick. But he can get better, and maybe more accurately, consistent with them both, and that will take his game to the next level.  These are things that are also much easier to improve once you get to the NFL than things like being a poor route runner or having bad hands, two of his strengths. Thinking he can't get open in the short passing game also shows you haven't watched enough tape on him, as he was used in that role so much in college with little issue getting open and making plays. And him not using his physicality as much isn't even something that hurts his game because he's so much more agile than a player of his size should be, which he used to his advantage.  Instead of throwing passes where he'd go up and box out a player like a TE or Mike Evans does, they use his athleticism and put the ball in places that only he can get to it, and he usually does (and yes, he'll still be able to do that against NFL DB's with his catch radius). But now that he's in the NFL, I'd like to see him get stronger and add that to his game because it also will help him take his game to another level. As I've said before, if he doesn't improve on those things at all, I think he's a Top 25 WR in this league, he's already that good.  But I think he'll improve on those things and be a perennial Top 10 WR and in his prime is considered and perform like Top 5 guy in some years. My expectations for him this year at 800 yards and 8 TDs (although I do think he'll get to 10 TDs) with a real chance at getting to 1,000.  But those expectations are because I think Thielen will lead the team in yards with close to 1k and XL/Coker each end up in the 500-600 range themselves, just too many mouths to feed this year for a rookie to dominate yardage, especially if we're running the ball well again. But if Thielen can't stay healthy or puts up sub 750 yards, then yea, my expectations for T-Mac likely shift to getting to 1k as a rookie.
    • Svech only 1 goal behind the guy they've pretty much already given the Conn Smythe to...
