Some of that Kalil $ could have gone toward keeping Norwell

I actually did a search for mentions of Eric Shelton in the last week.  The only one that came up was yours.

My recent focus has been on coaching hires.  That's what I'm interested in right now, plus of course any information about the sale of the team.

I mention Hurney occasionally, but I'd be willing to bet I cuold find at least a dozen posts (and probably more) where you talk about Gettleman for every one mention of Hurney.  Gettleman and Newton seem to be the only things you ever want to talk about.  And it's pretty clear you either just wanna argue with people or you're absolutely obsessed with both.

Rum's right.  It's tiresome, and it's boring.

Find some new material. dude.

In the recent past, Scot has been a wealth of knowledge on coaching changes--thnxk Scot.

We acquired both Johnson and Shepard as a response to losing Ginn. Their special team value was supposed to be a bonus. But primarily we wanted them for their speed in the passing game. Suggesting we paid them to be a 5th or 6th option is just revisionist history. We signed them expecting an impact.

Which of Benjamin, Funchess, Olsen, McCaffrey, and Samuel do you believe we had him above in terms of targets.

Jeremy needs to pin this to the top of the board so people will stop using term “out” or “escape” when referring to Matt Kalil’s contract.

Matt Kalil will cost 14.7M dead money if we cut him AFTER this season. That’s not an escape, it’s a brick to the back of the head.

As I said the minute he signed.....”This is a dark day in Panthers history”.

When we signed him, we felt he had potential.

He may still get better, possibly to the point his value equals his contract.

If not, we can spread the dead cap hit over two years.  Not ideal, but if his replacement is Moton or someone else we pick this year, our LT salary hit will not be that bad.  Add 1-1.5 mil to the 7.3 in dead cap.

The real downside is if he is still not the answer after 2018, we will not be able to replace him with a high priced free agent.

But you can have some dead cap and still succeed.  The eagles had 11.6m in dead cap this year (Daniel and Bradford) and they're in the freaking superb owl.

If that's correct,  then it's terrible.  Absolutely terrible!

Riley : https://www.profootballfocus.com/nfl/players/riley-reiff/7029

Kalil: https://www.profootballfocus.com/nfl/players/matt-kalil/7010

both are not good and overpaid. But at least one has an escape after year 2 ;)

Well,  if I wasn't  so preoccupied trying to work,  I would have said that just because the market is filled with suspect LTs doesn't mean that you have to pay the normal going rate to anyone.  You let some other person do that,  and then you look for a value, even a Band-Aid if necessary.

It's not correct. The contract is more complex than most here can understand. There would be dead money in 2019 but it'd be about $7M, and it'd only be 2019. His cap hit this year was approx. $3M and his cap hit next year is $7M. So it will have basically been a 2 year $17M deal but with the cap hit spread over 3 seasons. It wasn't a good signing, unless he starts playing at a high level this year (unlikely) you will not ever see me defend signing Matt Kalil. Whether it was DG or JR, I don't know and at this point don't care since it doesn't matter. But the contract was nowhere near as bad as some people think it was.

    • I thought this presented an interesting point. It is fair to wonder now, about switching the two QBs as so many tried to do that first year where Bryce was trash and CJ looked great.  It is almost the reverse scenario now and I wonder what CJ would look like here with better weapons better coaching and better protection. Overall, compared year one.  If each player had been in the other place for the three years. I would love to see CJ with this team now.  Just to see.
    • I really have no clue what to expect sunday.  To quote one of my favorite bands of all time, Operation Ivy "All I know is that I dont know".  We could win, hell we could win convincingly, we also could lose in blowout fashion.  We could be in a back and forth game with whoever has the ball last winning.  I legit HAVE NO CLUE.  This isnt the dominant bills teams of the past, Allen is still elite and can win any game by himself.  That said, heres my stab at looking at things. Our defense is made to stop this kind of team.  Strong against the run, a great corner but meh talent around the field.  We've stopped prolific run offenses this season.   Javonte Williams - Season low yards and ypa against us. De'Von Achane - Season low yards and ypa against us Breece hall - 3rd worst yards in a game Fact of the matter is, we arent what we were last year, we are a good run defense and that lines up well against the bills, Stop the run.  For once the lack of moving Jaycee might be a good thing, he will essentially lock down a side and without multiple real weapons thats fine.  Buffalo does not have an elite guy, theyve got a gaggle of average dudes.  Allen will stay away from Jaycee, it will be on Mike Jack and Chau Smith Wade do to their part and they will be matched with guys they can play at the level of. On offense, we do what the bills are bad at.  We run the ball well, and they suck at stopping the run.  Rico and Chuba will need 30 carries.  Andy Dalton will need to be opportunistic.  My big fear is what we learned last year, Dalton can get overconfident and make bonehead throws.  Its this simple.  Run the ball, stop the run.  Dont turn the ball over.  If we do these 3 things, we will be in a position to win in the 4th quarter.
