Wilder opts out of CFL season in attempt to get out of Canada

His dad was a really good runningback for the Buccaneers (retired before the Panthers came into existence).

Wilder Jr has already been evaluated by a couple of NFL teams who opted not to keep him.  The question is whether his CFL work has made him better.

More times than not, there's a simple reason they're in the CFL and not the NFL.

I vaguely remember a CFL guy being able to make an NFL roster a few years back, but I think it was a pass rusher and not a receiver.

I'd have to look it up.

Not saying it never happens.  In fact, Rocket Ismail, who later played for the Panthers, started out in the CFL.  But that was because the Argonauts decided to break the bank to sign him before the NFL draft.

Oh, and Joe Theismann, Joe Kapp, and Doug Flutie, all of whom had good to excellent NFL careers, started pro ball north of the border.

Yep. And I'm sure there are others.  But it doesn't happen very often.  Only has a hand full of times over the history of the both leagues.

I remember Wilder from FSU.

At 6'2 232 lbs, I would sign him to the offseason roster to give him a preseason shot, personally.

he's got some jets and he does a good job of keeping his feet churning and falling forward. of course it is against CFL guys so.....

may have some potential and probably worth someone kicking the tires on, but he seems like someone who would do a lot of "politicking" for the ball, which is something that makes norv grumpy.
