It’s definitely a sham, but it’s just a short term sham. What qualified candidate would actually want to take a gm job without knowing who the ownership is?

We have three very qualified candidates interviewing for the job right now.

Of course, we're not going to hire any of them. Instead, we're gonna hire a guy who we already know sucks at the job and is only employed in the first place because he's the terrible owner's most loyal toadie, but what can ya do?

Any prospective gm would take the interview. Doesn’t necessarily mean they would take the job, even if it were offered.

Its good publicity for those candidates to show up and give a good interview. It looks good for those guys as they make their next moves.

Absolutely.

The interview also allows these candidates to refine their presentations for future opportunities.

Chances are, in the unlikely event that one of these candidates is chosen for GM, they'll stand a better chance than Hurney of remaining on the job after the new ownership takes over.
