Rumor: McDaniels may turn down the Colts

In fairness, the Colts should've known better than trying to hire someone with a questionable reputation.

Schefter just tweeted out that a league source told him this was Kraft getting back at the colts for deflate gate.

Well, that could make the Patriots game against the Colts next season a little more interesting.

Could that be tampering though, ya know worth a fine or worse?

There'd have to be a violation of a specific rule or by-law.  I can't imagine what that would be because this isn't the kind of thing that happens a lot.

My guess is no, but stranger things have happened.

Rumors out there that Luck isn't coming back any time soon.

I don't blame McDaniels for backing out. Irsay is toxic.

Irsay is toxic, but the time to back out would have been weeks ago.

When you've already said yes, agreed to contract terms, even had assistants hired and then you back out, that's kinda douchey.

Now at a time when most teams are getting ready for stuff like free agency and the Combine, the Colts have to go back and redo a head coaching search they already thought was finished.

Really sucks for them.

Not only that, but now some team that thought their staff was complete is about to lose a coordinator.  So, unless they already have a guy in the wings, it could effect their ability to find a legitimate replacement because teams will be less likely to give permission for their position coaches to interview.

This is going to set off a domino effect.

Valid point, and one I hadn't thought of.

DeFilippo is technically a free agent.  And there's guys like Jack Del Rio still out there too,

Rapoport mentioned Leslie Frazier as an option.  He's on McDermott's staff in Buffalo.

I heard that too, but I have a buddy who is a die hard colts fan, he was saying everyone in colt country says luck is throwing again. So there’s that I guess

Didn't think about them.  I wouldn't be surprised if they go after DeFilippo.  He's an offensive guy, so fits the direction the team was looking towards with McDaniels, and he would also fill that young and exciting hire the Colts likely want.  But would he want to take that job now or just wait until next year's hiring cycle?

I could also see where Del Rio would be enticing for them.  Since he's been a HC before, he'd probably be in a better position to hit the ground running since we are so close to FA and the draft.  He likely wouldn't need as much time to settle in as DeFilippo would.
