1. Tepper is the guy. Lock this up. What David Tepper wants, he gets.

2. Tepper is one of the most respected people on Wall Street. He's a younger Warren Buffett.

3. He's a hedge fund manager and all hedge fund managers are, deep down, pretty evil.

4. He hates Donald Trump and called him the "father of lies" during the election because Trump didn't give a dime to Sandy relief or to 9/11 charities.

Garafolo is strongly pushing Tepper as the front runner.

From the linked article...

Quote

A frontrunner has emerged in the Carolina Panthers' search for a new majority team owner.

Billionaire hedge fund manager and philanthropist David Tepper is considered a strong contender to purchase the team, a high-ranking team executive with knowledge of the process told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Another source informed of the discussions so far also reiterated to Garafolo that Tepper is a strong contender, going so far as to label him the "leader in the clubhouse."

Tepper, whose net worth has been estimated at $11 billion by Forbes, currently owns a five percent stake in the Steelers. If he were to purchase the Panthers, Tepper would have to sell his stake in the Steelers, as Jimmy Haslam did when he purchased the Cleveland Browns in 2012.

Born in Pittsburgh, Tepper, 60, is the founder and president of Appaloosa Management, a global hedge fund firm based in Miami Beach. While Tepper is considered a leading contender to purchase the team, the Panthers are still vetting other potential candidates. South Carolina businessman Ben Navarro is among those interested in buying the team and has been working on putting together a bid, Garafolo reported.

Yeah, I mean how does anyone else expect to compete with Tepper? The only *current* owner with more money than Tepper is Paul Allen. That motherfuging debt collector Ben Navarro has nowhere near the money Tepper has.

Jerry Richardson still has to make the choice though.

On the one hand, he could easily choose the guy with the most money and ties to the Steelers.

But it's also possible Richardson might prefer the guy who lives in the Carolinas (more likely to keep his "legacy" in town).

Most of us probably assume he'll sell to the highest bidder, but that's not actually guaranteed.

Does Navarro even have a connection to the team though? Tepper splits time between New York and Miami. It would be one thing if Tepper lived in, say, London or San Antonio. David Tepper doesn't scream "moving the team" to me.

He doesn't necessarily say "moving the team" to me either, but who knows what Richardson will think?

Let's say Tepper doesn't give Richardson him a firm promise to never move the team. Would he still choose him?

We know Jerry is obsessed with his legacy.

Tepper is obviously an astute businessman. What current national market is lacking a "home"team? I can't think of one. Moving the Panthers across town to a cow pasture is one thing, moving to another state is an entirely different matter. But, I'm not a billionaire so what do I know.

If this guy really wants the team, there will be no competing with him. His net worth is higher than nearly all the other potential majority owners combined.

Whether he gets the team or not, I like his name being thrown around. He has instantly put a lot of heat on the other potential buyers to step up their game.
