Hurney and drafting receivers

If you want to feel really bad, that 2010 draft where we selected 3 WRs was when we blew the first rounder for Everette Brown in 2009. The two WRs drafted right after (within 2-3 picks) what would have been our first round pick were Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant. Think they would have helped in our playoff appearances?

What would have been. I also don’t want to dredge up that we wouldn’t have needed Armanti and/or LaFell and would have needed a DE still. Guess who the next DE picked after Armanti was? Everson Griffen.

If you are so sure he is going to fail.. Why are you here??

Do you enjoy ruining other ppl optimism??

I just don't understand the need to be down on something that hasn't happened yet.. Or to badger other ppl with it.

This response sums up the whole 17 pages of arguing!

Some of our fan base is hoping that trying the same thing once again, will yield different results!

Some call it optimism, others call it insanity

It's not really the case.. So far Hurney hasn't been the same Gm.. if he was Star, Norwell and KB would have over priced deals already.. Because the major issues with Hurney was trying to keep home grown talent by giving them high dollar deals..

There is no reason to be depress and trying to depress everybody else before something happens.

How about this..

Our best WR's in history was picked by our worst GM's..

Seifert - Smitty

And Polian only WR success was Moose..

Hurney, having been the longest tenured, picked none. He struggled greatly with WR. And DT’s, my god he was horrible there. Well he sucked at safety also.

He still built a Superbowl team and 2 NFC championship contenders.. How did that happen..

Speak for yourself. Trade a 3rd for a PR who was out of the NFL before the next season. I’m sure you loved it. Not a doubt in my mind.

Okay....

Dude had SEC records for returns and we needed a speedy slot type player.. I wasn't the only person here who liked that pick..

I haven’t seen him do anything GM like except agree to a trade that fell in his lap.

He kinda botched the whole kicker thing!

Then there is letting two solid players hit the FA market. Can’t at least keep one of the two? I just hope he keeps Star before we end up celebrating the likes of a Hollis Thomas

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
