New Line is developing a movie prequel, currently titled “The Many Saints of Newark,” penned by David Chase. Chase, who created the hit HBO series, wrote the screenplay with fellow “Sopranos” scribe Lawrence Konner.

Some fan-favorite characters from “The Sopranos” are expected to appear in the film — set in the era of the Newark riots in the 60s, when African-Americans and Italians were adversaries. Rivalries turned deadly once gangsters from each side got involved.

my father lived through the newark riots. i always loved how the sopranos was centered around essex county and all the landmarks around it that i’m familiar with; the local dialect, etc. the show had a lot of realism and accuracy to it that made up for some of the unrealistic aspects of crime dramas.

i’m thinking this is going to be centered around dickie moltisanti bc “molti santi” is “many saints” in italian.

i honestly couldn’t tell you if i liked season 5 more than 4 or the other way around. things definitely took a darker turn in s3. the first two were comparably more hollywood in tone and character development, also the violence in those first two seasons was kind of campy.

I wonder what influence 9/11 had on the show

that’s certainly an interesting question. some of the dialogue mentions 9/11 (like when bobby starts talking to tony about nostradamus, or when tony beats up georgie bc he was making light of a terrorist threat that tony was theorizing about,) and there’s at least one minor storyline that plays on post 9/11 islamophobia where tony reports two arabic associates of christopher’s to agent harris just bc he wants to have a tighter connection with someone in the FBI. it ends up paying off for tony at the end of the series bc he gets an important tip from harris about phil’s whereabouts.

    • Yeah it is nice seeing some improvement on the defensive side and the young guys.   I don’t want to think about the future much if Bryce doesn’t heal and we are kept in this limbo via an incomplete test. It is depressing  I don’t have quite as dim a view of the 24 draft class as you do   I have modest hopes for XL compared to none. I like CSW.  Am a little cooler on Sanders but at the same time realized this week that Morgan getting that future 2nd for moving down turned into Scourton. I think. Jackson is a real value in exchange for the guy we took with the 7th. I don’t expect anything from Brooks but Wallace seems to have improved enough to not bust. And Coker is in with them, but is giving us nothing this year. So far, and it is almost half over     I hope Andy still has enough to make watching the offense less of a claustrophobic experience. And there is a small chance we upset the Bills but just playing them tough and making it a fun game to watch will be enough.
    • Bryce haters gunna hate.  Can't change that. Bryce has been pretty durable all things considered.  A couple minor injuries considering how much he was hammered year 1.  And he still takes hits.  Dude is tough. The play in question is a football play, poo happens.  That's ultimately what happened.  Guys running around, trying to stop Young and stuff happened.  Sucks but that's how it goes. For me, I'd rather see Young play.  He will either prove that he's the Dude, a JAG (leaning heavily right now), or an outright bust (some of you were there on draft night, lol)
    • I think we need to let the 2025 class develop. Remember at one point early during last season the 2024 class was gonna be a killer. And we had all kinds of people chirping about how the 2021 Draft was the greatest of all time. Early returns are promising. Let's hope it continues.
