Where is your confidence level?

I go into every season with confidence and the hope of a child (despite any boring realities) until I get smacked in the head.

I remember being excited for the 1-15 season. Yeah.

Even as optimistic as I can be. I am pretty sure I was not too overly excited for the Clausen era. Kudos to you for that one.

I go into every season cautiously optimistic.  No change this season.

Mind you, I don't have a lot of confidence in Hurney, but I still plan to hope for the best even if I expect the worst.

Man, I don't know whether to say this post is a rollercoaster, what with its up, then down mantra. Or just go with a hard wishy washy, with how quickly you went from confidence, to borderline fear.

I blame Hurndog. He has that innate ability to bring out the worst in a Huddler.

I'm currently at the Jackie Chan "Who am I?" level of confidence. Not really sure how this year will play out, or even what the team's personality will be. I'm hopeful Norv will make us competitive and that we adapt well to his system, but I'm worried about our defense being one year older, and lack of playmakers outside of the big four. So, I'm taking a wait and see approach, which will most likely change post-draft.

"Cautious optimism" is the summary.  The other part is footnotes.

First, I love Jackie. So Kudos for that reference.

Second, I can live with your assessment for this year. The reality is, we really have no clue how our Offense is going to work? We know Cam is Cam. And we know Norv has had success. We just don't know how well they will play together?

As for those DBs. Playing zone helps CBs keep their eyes on the QB. Giving them better opportunities for Turn Overs. At least in theory that is. I cannot explain it, but man, I am excited for this group.

Lol. Understood. If I cannot get you to go overboard with glee for this season. "Cautiously Optimistic" will just have to do. Beats watching your 78 year old mother in law walking around without a bra. shivers.

Yeah, I can be blind as a fan, lol. I believe until I have no choice but not to.

I mean, realistically, when have the Panthers had 2 quality seasons in a row? Yeah.

I guess I'm a glutton for punishment, although I've been less emotionally affected by the down times as I've aged. I watch. They suck. I turn it off. No angst - The end.

Having been a Lions fan for 30 or so years before the Panthers. I was used to getting excited for the next year, only to be ready for the year to end by the end of October. Then they got Stafford, and man, expectations skyrocketed.

As long as we have Cam, we have a shot. So being excited for the upcoming year is relatively easy. For me anywho.

Probably true for most NFL fans. If your team has a Franchise QB, you are probably excited. If your team lacks a QB, you are @Mr. Scot. "Cautiously Optimistic".

    • We were very banged up going into that Rams game. Our second best player (Horn), our best safety, and both starting ILBs were out. I feel like our defense has really been impressive considering a year ago. If our offense learns how to be balanced like they were against the Rams, we can honestly beat anyone. Those losses to the Saints and 49ers may have been what we needed to figure out that when we depend too much on either running exclusively or passing exclusively that we are no good. That Rams game showed what we can do when we are in sync offensively and it was so much fun to watch. If that offense shows up this week then go ahead and cancel your plans the second weekend in January as you will have a game to watch.
    • and we won a game in the playoffs.....where our leading receiver was Fozzy Whitaker w/ just 39 rec yards.  That feels like a 2025 Panthers type winning setup.
    • Yep, the board has amnesia to the weekly swings and declarations made.  The same cast of characters has been talked about vastly different repetitively and you only have to go back as far as the game before the last one....and just keep repeating that pattern largely backwards.  I personally feel confident that this team is not bad and it is not good.  And while that is nice to get back to be out of the literal dumpster......I don't view this team as an average team w/ a puncher's chance.  All average teams are of different molds.  We are more the, if a really good team plays bad, you will lose to us variety.  We aren't bad enough where you can get away with a bad day vs us anymore.
