Newton actually said Tsai was on board with Rubin when the NFL spoke to them.

Ok, hadn't seen that.  But all things being equal, it was always going to go to Tepper.  The only way to wrestle it away from him would be willingness to pay significantly more than him.  So, I still think if Rubin and Tsai were willing to go up to 2.5-2.6 billion, they likely would have won the bid.

Sure it was a rigged game, but not one that couldn't be won...just one you'd have to overspend on.

Heck, Richardson thought he'd get three.

The real funny part of it to me is that the NFL actually tried to manipulate Tepper too.

Didn't work.

Sources close with negotiations tell me the $2.6B bid number from Ben Navarro was inaccurate, that it was "dramatically closer" to Tepper's $2.2B; Also tell me Navarro: -had a financial plan in place that met NFL requirements -could make finances work w/o new limited partners

Which leads me to think that we could see a lockout/strike during the next collective bargaining negotiations with the players.  Tepper is probably the top negotiator in the league now, so he will likely be called upon to lead the charge.  I could see him making an offer and not blinking, trying to force the players hands.  But since so many players feel like they got hosed in the last negotiations, they may dig their heels in so as not to lose again.

Will be interesting how that plays out.

Now that's interesting

So who leaked the higher number?

First suspect would probably have to be the NFL.

Could have been Navarro's PR firm trying to scare away the other potential bidders.

Maybe, since it's not technically correct information, there wasn't anything to keep confidential.

Hard to say.

I think we can expect a lot of little tidbits of information to trickle out once the sale is officially completed. I expect we'll learn a lot of things we thought were right and others were wrong.

Should be pretty interesting.
