Super Mario = Super attitude

Wow. Don't sleep on Mario this year. He's fired up by the disrespect, and he's passionate about mentoring the new guys...

Great article at Panthers.com

Favorite quote:

After most of the practice field cleared out, he stayed behind with most of the team's defensive ends and, with the coaches having already headed inside, led another lesson.

"No player left behind," said Addison, coming off his first double-digit sack season. "Me being experienced now, I remember when I was younger always finding a guy that was compatible to me and picking his brain. We have some young guys here that are just like me, so I was just trying to tell them some different ways you can get on a tackle and beat him."

More from the article... His assessment of some of the new guys.

On Poe: "We lost Star, but we gained a great player. He's going to pick up where we left off there and probably make it even better. I'm excited to see what he can do."

On Daeshon Hallicon-article-link.gif, coming off a rookie season sidetracked by injuries: "Daeshon has all the tools; once he puts it all together, he's going to be unbelievable. … He's coming along. He's going to get there."

On fourth-round draft pick Marquis Haynesicon-article-link.gif:"Sometimes you've got to make the team by playing special teams – that's how I made the team. You can be pretty good, but sometimes you've got to wait your turn so you have a chance to prove that you're worthy of playing. I think about a guy like Haynes. He's fast, so I know he can be a beast on special teams because he's got unbelievable speed."

On recently signed tryout Karter Schulticon-article-link.gif, who led the Football Championship Subdivision with 17 sacks in 2016: "A guy like him, he's got power and speed, and he's semi-experienced. He's got what it takes, but he's got to prove it on special teams as well."

On Mario Addison: "He's a cool, laid-back kind of guy. All of his teammates like him. A cool guy, and very humble.

"I want to have a better season than I had the last two years, a better season.

****

He's really stepping up as a leader on the line. May be the least-known 11 sack guy in the league. Let folks keep sleeping on him...!

Pepper gets all the attention and Addison gets the sacks. Okay, Pep gets his sacks, too, but I hope Mario just wakes the league up this year. He's put in the hard work and it shows. You've got to cheer for a guy who appreciates where he came from and is willing to mentor those up that are behind him.

Good fellow, so glad our coaches stuck with him.

Mario is a great role model for a lot of these late round draftees. He came in as a UDFA, bounced around several practice squads, and did just enough for the Panthers to keep a job. Now he's finally getting his starts and getting paid. Mario busted his ass and has gotten better every year.

Truth.

And I'm struck by the fact that Mario got paid and THEN had his best season. Sometimes it seems as if players (unintentionally?) drop off somewhat after a big contract. Mario just took his game higher. I love it.
