Team President

Mr. Scot

Tepper confirmed in his presser that he actually already has "a couple of people" that he's trying to wrangle for the team president job. Voth clearly already knew about it when he asked the question.

No names given, but I've long suspected Steeler second in command Omar Khan would be an ideal candidate for that.  I may take a look at other possible options at some point.

It'll be interesting to see who gets named, and how soon it happens.

I'd prefer Genghis Kahn, with his own statue:

Max Henson officially confirms the search is on for a team president, and a few other things...

Quote

His arrival has signaled change, evidenced by something as simple as new paint and the removal of signage in the stadium lobby.

Among the major changes he discussed at the presser:

  • A new practice facility, which he believes the team desperately needs. “We can’t be less than competitive with other NFL teams,” he said. “We’re falling behind a little bit.”
  • Early discussions about plans to “re-do” the stadium and host more events for the Charlotte community, like concerts and high school championship games.
  • The search for a team president, who will be tasked with fostering a family environment.

Kinda wonder what signs they took down

Probably all of the stuff that referenced Jerry Richardson as the owner. He was pretty proud of himself, so there was a good bit of it.

Seems logical.

Perhaps he wasn't "contractually obligated" to keep anything other than the statue up.

That's some Kim Jong Un level narcissism, contractually obligating them to keep his statue. That thing is an eyesore. I wonder how long he'll have to keep it up.

The other name that's been mentioned in connection with Tepper in the past was former Browns Chief financial officer and later team president Mike Keenan. A while back, Ian Rapoport said Keenan was being talked about as a possible addition under Tepper.

Keenan was fired in 2010 and, if I recall correctly, hasn't worked in the NFL since. My understanding is that he worked well as a financial guy, but not so much as a football guy.

If Rodrigue is correct and Tepper plans to replace both Tina Becker and Danny Morrison with separate people, Keenan could be a candidate to take over the business side of the operation. It's also possible that Tepper will appoint someone solely for the business side and leave the football side untouched for now.

We'll see.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
    • Sauls getting cut by Steelers if no trade happens.
    • No they are going to give Claudin Cherelus 2 spots.
