Daryl Williams just injured his knee...it's bad

here's how david Newton described it on ESPN.

Williams was bowled over by defensive end Zach Moore along with contact from tackle Vernon Butler as he dropped back in pass protection.

He immediately grabbed the knee and screamed as trainers rushed over. Teammates took a knee and stayed there for several minutes in silence.

Quarterback Cam Newton walked about 40 yards away and stood alone.

The Panthers had begun early negotiations on a contract extension for Williams, who has started 28 games and played in 39.

Taylor Moton, who backed up Williams last season, was first up to replace Williams. The 2017 second-round pick was competing for the starting left guard spot with Amini Silatolu.

There will be backup depth available with cuts as well as our own guys.  If Moton can play tackle we need another versatile tackle to back him up. I am less worried about left guard than I now am about right tackle I'd Williams is hurt for an extended time.

Sucks for him. Hate to see this kind of injury happen to anyone even players of rival teams.

Moton or someone  is going to have to step up for us.

Feel really bad for Williams, considering it’s a contract year for him and a good season would have solidified a nice upcoming payday.

Taylor Moton will address the media. Tough thing to do in his current position .

Taylor Moton: “Daryl is one of my best friends. My heart goes out to him. He was an All-Pro tackle last year and he means a lot to the team.”

Taylor Moton emotional talking about Daryl Williams. “I didn’t see what happened but I immediately got down on one knee and started praying for him.”

Taylor Moton says Daryl Williams is one of his best friends on the team - says he'll use the right technique no matter where they put him.

Moton: “Wherever the coaches put me I’ll give it my all. I feel comfortable and confident. Wherever they put me is my best position.”

  1. Rivera admitted it was tough for the offense to bounce back after Williams went down. Took the wind out of the sails. But Moton has an opportunity now, and Rivera believes he’s ready for it.

On the first day of full contact in pads, right tackle Daryl Williams was carted off the field in obvious pain after suffering a non-contact injury.
