A decent backup caliber LT would be an improvement over Kalil. I honestly believe that had Darryl Williams not gotten hurt we might be giving either him or Moton some looks at LT. Kalil is a huge liability, both on the field and against the cap.

I never wanted Matt and was very vocal about him being a significant downgrade from Oher...  but, i was hoping we could work around him...  it is clear, we can't and i don't want him getting Cam hurt.  I want him out of there ASAP.  As you said, I'm convinced there is a backup LT out there somewhere that is significantly better than Kalil right now.

We're just gonna have to bite the bullet and cut him next year. It's going to be brutal against the cap, but it has to happen. Post June 1st he'll hit us for about $6.5M next year and in 2020.

Patriots are a smart franchise why in the hell would they want Matt freaking Kalil?lol

They wanted Kony Ealy, Philip Dorset, Brandon LaFell, etc. etc. Belichick best coach ever... Far far far from best GM ever

They got those guys for next to nothing though. No one is trading anything for Kalil with his contract.

I was obviously joking... but regarding Dorset they gave a backend starting QB/top backup with 3 years on his rookie deal, that's seriously valuable. Ealy was the equivalent of like a 4th and they've wasted many first rounders on sh*tty players.

    • People apparently forgot that offseason. Stafford and wife met with McVay in Mexico the offseason he moved. McVay convinced him to leave. Stafford went to the Lions and had a very emotional meeting in which he said he wanted to leave. They obliged based on his time there and the compensation offered(which included Goff). It was a very amicable split. People in Detroit still revere him to this day. He has been open about his affinity for them, as well.
    • going from High school to the pros would be incredibly easy
    • Smitty was a 3rd rounder.  I’m not really saying draft one high at all, 3rd being higher than I have in mind for this year. I am completely with the people that say ‘enough’ high picks on “weapons for Bryce”. Enough of that. Don’t want a weapon drafted early, Yet Again.  For that matter I wish we weren’t forced to address LOT because I want linebackers and big guys. And OL depth in the mid to late rounds. Maybe some late insurance at RB. A QB if the right one is begging for us to snap him up.    But looking at the WR room and believing Moore is sort of redundant or maybe even not a great fit,  and then just recalling the numerous calls for a burner, I was only really saying what I think would be the best type of addition.
