Rodrigue's take on the Final 53 (Link)

Making it...

Taylor Heinicke, Cameron Artis-Payne, Brendan Mahon, Marquis Haynes, Zach Moore, Jermaine Carter, Andre Smith, Corn Elder and Kevon Seymour

Out in the cold...

Garrett Gilbert, Kenjon Barner, Damiere Byrd, Mose Frazier, Daeshon Hall, Bryan Cox, Efe Obada and Lorenzo Doss

If she is right there are at least 5 mistakes we made

Cox and Byrd should be on this team. I'd hate to part ways with Hall because I think the potential is there.

I had read some pretty rough pre-draft analysis of Hall so I wasn't thrilled with the pick.  Hoped he'd prove better than what I read.

For the moment, I suppose he st ill could but we'll see what the next 24 hours brings.

I'm not sure who Jourdan thinks will be returning kicks with BOTH Barner and Byrd not making it. Don't think we should put Moore, Samuel or CMC out there on a regular basis.

I don't either, but if Moore and Samuel aren't starters then the team could view returns as a way to get them on the field.

I was intrigued by his measurables, but I'm always leary of guys who play in the same unit as another elite dominant player, both as draft prospects and as free agents. Seems like one of them is almost always riding the other guy's coattails and is nowhere near as good when he steps out of the other guy's shadows.

Don't know.  She could be, though Voth doubts the team would cut Byrd.

It's not like we exactly have a great record predicting final cuts on this board either, so who knows?

The good news on Obada is we can keep him safe no matter what with the International Program.

Not really.  The international program will only allow us to keep an extra spot on the PS for him, but no protection this year.  Any team can poach him if they want.  He was only protected the first year on our practice squad.

Not quite true. Bill Voth explained it in Grill Bill a few weeks ago.  3 options.

1) he makes 53

2) we waive him and if he clears we add him to PS as a regular player who can be promoted to 53 or poached by another team, and we lose 11th PS spot.

3) we waive him and if he clears we add him to PS with exemption as 11th player and he is locked on our PS for the year.

Aka sign him or lose him is a very strong possibility.

Thanks.  I thought that I read somewhere that in their second year that the only benefit is that they hold an 11th spot on the practice squad.  Hope Voth is right.  I would still like to see the official policy, but haven't been able to find it.
