Cam’s late “personal foul” for taunting

I don't know that I'd call what he did dumb. Maybe a lapse in judgement or letting his emotions get the best of him, but dumb is a bit much.

But it's also who Cam is. He's a trash talker. He's gonna get taunts every now and then. To be honest, you want him picking them up. If he's not playing well, he's not talking poo.

"Dumb" vs "lapse in judgement" is a six of one / half dozen of the other thing for me.

Ya gotta know what's gonna get you penalized and don't do it. Especially in crucial situations.

Ian Thomas actually did the same kind of thing yesterday, but he got away with it.

Cams fault for allowing the Bengals to drive down the field on us?

plz explain

Cam's fault that the penalty knocked us out of FG range and forced us to punt. The score was 28-21. Had we been able to kick a FG it would have been 31-21 and a two possession game. The ball was at the 28 when he got the penalty. We got moved back to the 43.

This is a "taunt" that cost the Browns the game a couple years ago where the ball clearly slips out of Pryor's hand when he is trying to toss the ball to the refs and it accidentally lands on the Ravens defender. Tossing the ball at a defender or handing the ball to a defender is a taunt every time. It's not new.

That looks nothing like the footage that’s been provided on Cam. Like not even similar.

I understand that but you said it would have been his fault the game was tied. That penalty didn’t give them an extra TD.

So how would them scoring been his fault?

Unsportsmanlike conduct has been a push for the last couple years....throwing or thrusting (see handing) a ball at or to another player is going to draw the flag.

I'm 100% positive that Cam knew as soon as he did it that he was likely to get that flag, I'm guessing that he 100% knew that he shouldn't have done it the moment he did it.

Nevertheless, it's something we see almost weekly out there, and Cam will learn from it.  Dude wants to win, and knows that the flag he got could have changed the outcome.  It didn't, move on.

Does Aaron Rodgers get called for that yes or no

Yes. It's the call every time it's caught by a ref.

Maybe so. Certainly unnecessary, but as I said, Cam plays the game with a ton of emotion. Sometimes they get the best of him.

Jesus christ. He obviously wouldn't have been responsible for them scoring. He would be responsible for the game being tied instead of having a lead. Cam cost us 3 points and he is lucky it didn't cost the team the game.

I’ve been waiting on someone to provide some sort of evidence of this. But no one has yet. It was some ticky tack call that only goes against certain players.

Igo posted a gif, but beyond that 1) the guys in the striped shirts who had a much better view of it than we did threw a flag and 2) Newton has nowhere indicated that he believes the penalty on him was unfair. Just the opposite. He's apologizing for making the mistake.

Tom Brady is regularly celebrated for his emotional displays on the football field. What's the term...fiery?

Cam places a football down, and suddenly there are gasps about how he "has to keep his cool".

Why is this innocuous moment being so meticulously overanalyzed?

You aren't that dense.

It would be the fault of the player who pushed the team out of field goal range while only being a 1 score game by getting a dumb flag.

Cam, Brady, and Rivers are all talked about as being moody/firey/emotional players.  So far it's a stigma for Rivers and Cam, and it's not for Brady.

Win a lot, and that talk goes away...that's pretty much it.

In the past you had Manning and Favre as the emotional guys...I have openly criticized Brady and Manning 1 for continually throwing their teammates under the bus after losses, and I've praised Rivers and Cam for never doing it.

Different strokes and all.

To be fair, had we lost, any s--t Cam took for that play would have been deserved.

But we didn't, and Newton realizes he made a mistake and in all likelihood, won't do it again. So we're good.

I see what you are saying, but the lost couldn’t have been put all on Cam from that mistake. There were plenty others, but I see what you are saying. I agree that Newton did realize it was a mistake, he’s a smart kid.
