Cam’s late “personal foul” for taunting

Tom Brady is regularly celebrated for his emotional displays on the football field. What's the term...fiery?

Cam places a football down, and suddenly there are gasps about how he "has to keep his cool".

Why is this innocuous moment being so meticulously overanalyzed?

How does this fit into your narrative

Cam, Brady, and Rivers are all talked about as being moody/firey/emotional players.  So far it's a stigma for Rivers and Cam, and it's not for Brady.

Win a lot, and that talk goes away...that's pretty much it.

In the past you had Manning and Favre as the emotional guys...I have openly criticized Brady and Manning 1 for continually throwing their teammates under the bus after losses, and I've praised Rivers and Cam for never doing it.

Different strokes and all.

Here's Manning getting a taunting penalty.

Rivers has gotten multiple taunting penalties in his career.

I see what you are saying, but the lost couldn’t have been put all on Cam from that mistake. There were plenty others, but I see what you are saying. I agree that Newton did realize it was a mistake, he’s a smart kid.

The point...would be that we kick a FG there (and make it) the game becomes a 2 score game, and is all but won at that point.

Instead, we had to punt, down 7.  We were still heavily favored to win, but it's almost a guarantee if we get that FG.

At the end of the day, it was just a mistake, and didn't really cost us anything....move on to the bye week.

  • Cam didn't throw it, he placed/pushed it onto Dunlap.
  • Cam still shouldn't have done it regardless and it will get flagged every time because it is taunting.
  • Cam has done this a few times before. It's been called taunting every time.
  • This particular time knocked us out of field goal range in a close game which makes it worse than the others.
  • The time he did it against the Redskins when he was hit while trying to slide didn't bother me because no flag was thrown for the dirty hit. I can understand emotions getting the best of him in that situation due to not getting any protection from the refs all year.
  • Hopefully he will stop doing it moving forward. He should know better.
  • We still won so it wasn't a big deal.

Newton taking heat for a split second ultimately harmless moment in a WIN after our defense was thoroughly embarrassed on the road by Matt Ryan the week before is bizarre but absolutely the MO of the Carolina Panthers fanbase.

Did the defense not take heat after that loss?  From both the coaches and fans?

I think that you read what you want to read here Red.

He always does. Go back to page 6+ on the main forum. Tons of threads talking about how poor the defense played and how we were only in it because Cam/the Offense stepped up.

Today, one thread talking about a dumb penalty that knocked us out of FG range in a one score game.

It's his MO.

From what I saw it was fans calling for Ron Rivera's head for the same gaffes as past years more than anything else.

Our identity as a franchise all along has been building around a stout defense, yet we would have been blown off the field if not for our playmakers like Cam doing what he does best.

Hmmmm, I saw a lot of "shaq ain't TD", "what the hell do we have at safety", "was Luke OK...played like he was out of itall game", "where is Eric Reid", "when is TD back", "big vern is a bust"  and what not...and of course the ever loud Ron is a bum.

This week the offense played well, and the defense played better...had it not been for the turnovers created by the defense yesterday, we may have well been blown off our field.

Dude you're not the only Cam Newton fan on this board, I doubt there is anyone in this thread that does not want Cam Newton to be our starting QB.

You can take Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Ryan, give me Cam...but still the play was boneheaded I'm sure the man himself would say that, and it deserved some criticism good thing it didn't come back to bite us and nullify what was for Cam an otherwise great game.
