Falcons lost both their starting safeties. Buccaneers lost their safety to another dimension. Saints need secondary help. But Panthers signed Eric Reid.

Voth has said that he doesn't expect the approach to players with character or legal issues to change.

Reid can't really be considered a "troubled" player. The controversy around him is political, not criminal or personal.

yeah his "character issue" is that he has extremely high character

I get that, but worst case is he plays 3 quarters for us then suffers another concussion and we have to shut him down for the year.

Clearly we aren't going to be trading for a safety, so if the worst possible outcome were to indeed play out, then odds are anyone else we were perhaps targeting that is sitting on their couch (ex. Mike Mitchell), will probably still be sitting there if Reid were to get hurt again.

I guess what I'm saying is you can't let injury history prevent you from signing a proven commodity at a position of need during week 4.

I think you do have to factor injury history into the equation, especially when you're looking at a position where you're already thin.

The trade for Corey Robinson was supposedly for the purpose of improving depth on the line. All Robinson ended up doing was to spend a couple of weeks enjoying the luxury of our finely crafted benches on the sideline (good thing that pick was conditional).

Now of course, Reid isn't depth, and he's a much higher quality of player than Corey Robinson. It's still a gamble though, but then so is any signing of a player with past injury issues. You always have to decide whether it's worth the risk or not.

For the Panthers, it is, so here we are.

I know it's incredibly easy to look a the Saints passing yard stats and say damn, they need secondary help.

Lattimore got schooled by Evans week 1. Aside from that, it's literally been CB2 and miscommunications on zone concepts. SS play hasn't been a problem. Von Bell has actually had a good start to the season. Can't say I've seen a single thing on film that points to needing better play from the position.

But the other 2 teams, I would agree. Especially Atlanta. They should have been on the phone as soon as Neal went down, and if not then, for sure when Allen went down.

Don't get me wrong, I love the signing and think he was the best choice. Wasn't on the Mitchell train, loved him when he was here but think he is to old now. grant I haven't keep up with him last few years. but does seem like a lot of people are just sweeping the concussions under the rug. I would be curios to know what caused the concussions? (I know what caused one). poor technique? bad luck? has he changed his style to better protect himself?

If it's technique issues, it'll be up to Richard Rodgers to fix them.
