Winner

I think that it would be great, but...Bridgewater wants to be a starter. So does he believe that he can beat out Cam? Probably. Does he think that the coaches would actually replace Cam if Cam comes in healthy and makes a statement during a close competition? I don't know about that. Norv could be a determining factor.

Cam vs Bridgewater would definitely spice things up in Charlotte, and it would be a great scenario in my mind.

People are talking like signing a veteran and using a high draft pick are "one or the other" options.

They really aren't.

Just have to decide how many resources you want to allocate to what could be a back up spot that really doesn't see the field.

Do you spend resources to help your #1 QB win or spend resources to help the team win if the #1 QB can't go?

I'm not convinced anyone knows for sure how Cam's shoulder will be next year and until we do its hard to answer the above question.

Normally I'm not a fan of investing much into the backup QB spot.  Best case you draft a guy in a cheaper round and develop him.  That way you have him for four years at a reasonable price and worst case you trade him at some point.

If your #1 gets hurt you are probably going to lose anyway.  Take your better draft pick and get ready for the next year.  Of course this is a bit different with the uncertainty of Cam's shoulder.

I love seeing people admit this now rather than in August, when I said it and got flamed for it.

I am sure you don't have time to retrace my posts, but if you did you would see that I always said it and was disappointed when Heinicke got the nod and we released Gilbert.

I have long supported Cam.

But I support the team first and long term success.

If Cam is out in 2019, for his long term health, and we are looking at his 2020 contract for a 30yo QB whos career successes have been defined by being dual-threat... I can't say it is not the logical move to shop his value with teams like Jacksonville, Washington, NYG, etc.

I just am nervous about a 33 or 34 year old Cam keeping us cap strapped. I think he still has good trade value... with position premium, I would argue Kalil Mack value to some of the aforementioned teams.
