5. Rashan Gary, DE, Michigan*

Grade: 94 | Height: 6-5 | Weight: 283 | Previous: 4

Three years after he arrived in Ann Arbor as the most celebrated recruit in the country, Gary somehow matched the hype. A powerful run defender and edge-setter, he has an outstanding combination of size and athleticism and will fit any scheme: explosive, sudden and a nightmare to block. His closing burst, high motor and natural instincts helped him to 3.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss in nine games. He missed three consecutive games earlier this season with a shoulder injury, but he was productive in his return.

7. Ed Oliver, DT, Houston*

Grade: 93 | Height: 6-3 | Weight: 292 | Previous: 5

Oliver missed four consecutive Cougars games with a knee injury and had an explosive exchange with coach Major Applewhite on the sideline in mid-November before returning at the end of the regular season. But on the field, you don't want to have to block this dude. He explodes out of his stance, has elite initial quickness and is totally disruptive and usually unblockable one-on-one. Oliver has great range and always plays hard. He had 58 tackles, including 14.5 for a loss and three sacks, in eight games.

9. Clelin Ferrell, DE, Clemson*

Grade: 92 | Height: 6-5 | Weight: 265 | Previous: 11

Ferrell has very good, if not elite, physical tools. He grades out as an every-down NFL starter, though he could be used as a 3-4 outside linebacker or a 4-3 defensive end. His hands aren't overly violent at the line, but they are quick and active. Through 13 games, his quick first step helped him to 17.5 TFL and 10.5 sacks (eighth in the nation).

Everyone else in the recruiting world is putting Gary ahead of Ferrell. Gary was the best player in his draft class coming out of highschool and remains near the top. What that tells me is he is as advertised...people have been saying it since high school dude is legit and at this point scouts are coming to the same conclusion..why try to deny it and say so and so is better?

Dude is legit.

Again taking that with a grain of salt.  ESPN guys bounce around all the time, see Kiper say he'd retire if Clausen wasnt a star (he still hasn't)

80% of the people out there have Ferrell ahead.

Again both Good players.  Ferrell just has the edge.

I haven't seen any that have Ferrell ahead of Gary. Of course its splitting hairs and person opinion, but Gary is Bigger, faster, stronger and just a better athlete than Ferrell. Ferrell doesn't have elite physical tools and seems more a effort guy to me. Now when i say that im comparing him to Gary. is he a bad elite,no hes probably above average. but if im in the top 10 i want a freak.

1. Ferrell doesnt fit either

2. Gary is a freak thats been plugged in at 3-4 DE and still taking on Double and TRIPLE teams.  And was a 4-3 DE in high school.

3. Sweat played at around 245 and expected to be up around 250 come combine time (just 5-6 pounds lighter than Barrnett the other year)

They should be taking a bpa of needed positions where we will be drafting

Ferrell and Gary will fit that.

The panthers are in position to get the best player at his position on the board, and have needs everywhere. They need to dial in obtaining those #1 prospects rather than searching to and fro through the draft board and comparing weaknesses.

Gary would be nice. I rate guys who don’t have All-Americans and fellow stars beside them a bit higher than others.

Being a stud since highschool shows consistency you have more to go off of in my opinion. Gary being the best of the best on espn and rivals coming out. Still being top 5 mixed in with other kids in this class says alot to me

I get that people have draft crushes. I’m interested to read the knocks against these guys as well as the drooling over their athletic ability.

I read that Ferrell wins with effort but his technique is questionable. He maximizes his ability and you always get effort from him. But he’s not a physical freak. He is also said not to get much bend. Furthermore he plays on a dominant D. That concerns me. I would be interested to hear people who have actually watched him play give responses to those criticisms?

People keep telling me that Gary is dominant, but his stats don’t reflect it. Can someone point me towards a game where he had real impact. Or is it pure projection? Is he a DE or interior? How does he fit in the Panthers DL?

Gary is a physical freak

A DE played 4-3 end in HS but also could be moved inside pn rush packages, like we've done with pep etc

He's been put at 3-4 DE in college.  Much like Clowney was put at 3-4 DE in Houston when he was a edge rusher.

He Still is comanding double AND TRIPLE teams

That link didn’t work in my browser unfortunately-what game was it?But it is good to know he gets lots of attention, it certainly goes some way to explaining his disappointing stats. I mean I would feel better about him if he wasn’t switching from a 3-4 and had played and succeeded at DE in college. I totally get that theres a huge amount of guesswork about how players translate at different levels but I think there are reasons to be wary of his fit with the Panthers.

Quinenon Williams

Bosa

Oliver

Ferrell

Would all be top 5 picks in any other draft

Raekwon

Derrick Brown

Simmon

Wilkins

Tillery

Dre'mont Jones

Lawerence

Would all be 1st round locks in any other draft.  And thats just interior DL.

No way all of them are drafted top 6. Sorry.

They wont be

Because not every team has big needs at DL.

Many of them are top 15 calibre and top5 calibre.

But only so many teams will draft DL.  Thus pushing some down, down into the 2nd like ive been saying

    • Why? AI already taking jobs, running up power bills, drinking all the water and just bad for the environment but hey lest try to shoehorn another useless way to use it.
    • I'm going rogue in R1 but there's so much confusion around us. Last year, we were going Walker or Williams and caught folks off guard with TMac. The previous year we LOVED Legette and it was no surprise when his name was called. This year, I think we nail three areas that weren't totally addressed in FA.  R1 - Kayden McDonald Full disclosure, I want Thienemann here, but think he goes before 19. Some might see an "overdraft" but McDonald unlocks so many people on our D. Having a DT the caliber of McDonald let's Lloyd, Wallace and the newly drafted Hill flood the offensive backfield. Also opens up Moehrig and our EDGES to eat. Lastly, it also removes all the pressure on DB to be the primary facilitator in the trenches and A'Shawn will be missed. I don't care about Turk. McDonald is the only true DT worth of a R1 grade and Morgan seals up our trenches here w/ a kid from a blue blood school. R2 - Anthony Hill Jr *trade up*  I love JRod, but think a smart team takes him at the end of R1 (Seattle, NE w/ two d-minded coaches). Hill, Jr is a beast and lost in the shuffle with all the Styles/Allen/Rodriguez hype. He and Lloyd with DB and McDonald up front and flanked by Scourton/Phillips is nasty.  R3 - Hecht/Lew/Center du jour Let's stop the madness with ignoring this position in the draft. We need one and should start normalizing the capital invested in our OL with someone on a draft contract. He won't need to start day 1, but I think the right selection will push for starter reps. R4 - Bud Clark Not sure if he's here in R4 where we pick, but would fit the "type" of FS/roamer that we need opposite Moehrig and Ransom. Allows us to run 3-safety looks and really keep teams guessing with personnel packages. R5 - Kendrick Law The kind of WR we need. IDK if he's any different than Horn, Jr or Metchie but Law could be a dart throw that brings a deep threat to our WR corps I'm guessing one of the R5 picks is used to move up in R2 along with a '27 day 3 pick.   Post-draft, I sign Njoku to bring in a vet at TE. I'm also keeping my eyes open for pre-week 1 team cuts for a young CB that we could bring in to maybe plan for Mike Jack's departure next year. Flame away.... I know the McDonald pick will not make people happy.
