Kyle Allen should be our backup going forward

Can't argue with you there, but it's going to take more than this one game. Personally, I just want the best guy, regardless if he's on the roster or not.

I think that it's imperative to get better protection so that we can get better clarity. Atlanta's pass rush was hell last week (not excusing Heinike's bad decisions).

Right on--agree.

The vast majority of the backup depth decisions are made on little more than two or three games every preseason.

It's not like we regularly get a larger sample size.

It may have been a meaningless game for New Orleans, but it wasn't for the Panthers. Sunday's 33-14 victory ended a seven-game losing streak and kept Carolina from becoming the first team to go from 6-2 to 6-10 since the league expanded to a 16-game schedule in 1978. It also wasn't meaningless for quarterback Kyle Allen before leaving with a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter. In his first NFL, start the undrafted rookie showed he may belong in this league. It also wasn't meaningless for center Ryan Kalil and defensive end Julius Peppers. Kalil is retiring and Peppers, 38, may be too.

Yes so fans shouldn't act like they knew it all along ..  And the same bunch of fans didn't bring up this idea 6 weeks ago.. And if this something a coach should have done??

Let me know what coach Started a undrafted rookie they cut in the preseason during a playoff run in the middle of the season??

DON'T WORRY I'LL WAIT..

WTF- coaches see the players every day--do you?

Point is not that he should have started 6 games ago.

Point is that perhaps there is a talent in Allen , not recognized.

Wouldn't be the 1st time under this regime.

Sorry. I'm actually more interested in having an adult conversation than talking with you.

I'd have somebody more on your level talk to you instead, but I don't have a 10 year old handy.

Then why are you still talking to me.. I've already Express my dislike for you and the fact I think you're a bitch.. And you still keep replying..  So either you like the abuse or realize you're talking to a higher level person with a good BS detector system going..

You consider this "talking to you"?

Please show us this .. Post or it didn't happen..

I said it for sure. On multiple occasions. Nothing against Heinicke, who has heart, but Gilbert WAS better in the preseason. Not by a long shot, but he was better.

Gilbert was also 2-3 today for 40 yards. But I digress...Allen is the backup now. He’s earned it. I underestimated him.

Or point could be he wasn't showing this level of talent early (because he was a undrafted rookie) .. And as the season went along he got better... Accumulating into a good performance against a team who didn't give a poo.. So you really can't blame the coach for not seeing this talent.. None of us saw this in the preseason or in TC and now we shouldn't act like we did.. Right??

Also there was a fact that he was on and off the roster most of the season.. So Ron didn't see him most of the season anyway..

I'd agree that Allen earned a spot higher than Taylor Heinicke, and that's if Heinicke is even brought back (which I wouldn't guarantee).

Still can't see going ahead and naming him the backup though. Giving him a chance to compete for the job next season though? Absolutely.

To be honest, the quarterback that made the worst possible argument for being the Panthers backup next season was probably Teddy Bridgewater.
