Blaming Rivera

Recommended Posts

Our win today has clearly exposed the rampant culture of blindly hating on everything Rivera does, whether rational or not. If we win games under normal circumstances, it’s in spite of Rivera and as a result of Cam and others putting the team on their backs. However for some reason, Rivera gets 100% of the credit for today’s win. No one is blaming Kyle Allen for not intentionally throwing 6 interceptions...Norv for not running it up the gut on 3 straight downs every drive...CAP for not fumbling every carry...DJ Moore and Ian Thomas for not dropping every pass...etc. etc.

Rivera pulled CMC and Luke after their lone drive - our best healthy offensive and defensive players. That seems like a guy trying everything he can to win the game? You want him to not call timeouts at the end of the first half to set the team up for a field goal? How blatantly do you expect him to tank on national television? That would be ridiculous.

You guys so eloquently compared today’s game to a preseason game, and fail to acknowledge that in that same analogy, players are desperately fighting for their roster spots and ultimately their longevity in this league. If you think coaches in any sport go into the locker room or practice before the game and tell all of these players to hold back and give up so we can lose and possibly get a better player in the draft, then I really doubt you are over 14 or 15 years old because that’s not manhood. As harsh as it sounds, I find that to be spitting on the grave of Sam Mills and everything he stood for.

“Keep Pounding”

That’s it...Keep Pounding. There’s no conditional asterisk attached that instructs to Keep Pounding*

*but only when it’s convenient for draft positioning

Get that loser mentality out of here. Willingly accepting and even embracing losing in any way shape or form breeds a culture of losing in the locker room.

Does it suck that we ultimately lost a few spots in the draft? Yeah sure. Is it Rivera’s fault? Nope. Y’all aren’t Panthers...you’re sheep. Go cheer for the Rams or something.

There shouldn't have been a starter on the field yesterday. edit or as close to possible.

Rivera is in save job mode, even more sucking today.

You do know we still have to field an actual team, right? With 22 starters on offense/defense, we’d be forced to play some of our actual legitimate starters on Special Teams then. The only reason we can get away with benching that many starters in a preseason game is because we have 90-man rosters.

Still, I’ll bite...but with your logic, then you must be of the mindset that Sean Payton was indeed also trying to win the game as well. None of that “Sean Payton was punking us by letting us win” nonsense...Saints had virtually identical usage of their starters as far as playing time and availability.

I absolutely knew that there was absolutely no way that we were going to throw this game. I have never seen that poo in the NFL. Teams always play to win, period! NFL franchises, from the top down, play to win every Sunday, and that truth was evident today with every team that won or lost. The day that teams intentionally lose in the NFL will be a sorry day indeed. I've never seen it, and I hope that I never will, especially by the team that I root for.

There was once a day in the Huddle where perhaps a handful of people would suggest the losing course in order to move up in the draft, but the great preponderance of Huddlers would spurn such an idea, but now...pride seems to be in short supply, and there seems to be no shame in essentially rooting for the Panthers to lose. Wow!

7 losses in a row

There’s a difference between losing games because you were outcoached, outplayed, etc., and losing games intentionally. Once you tell your players to lose or give them the impression you’re tanking, then you either ingrain that mentality into your players or you lose the respect of the locker room.

Proverbs 16:15-22 New International Version (NIV)

15 When a king’s face brightens, it means life;
    his favor is like a rain cloud in spring.

16 How much better to get wisdom than gold,
    to get insight rather than silver!

17 The highway of the upright avoids evil;
    those who guard their ways preserve their lives.

18 Pride goes before destruction,
    a haughty spirit before a fall.

19 Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed
    than to share plunder with the proud.

20 Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers,[a]
    and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.

21 The wise in heart are called discerning,
    and gracious words promote instruction.[b]

22 Prudence is a fountain of life to the prudent,
    but folly brings punishment to fools.

A bunch of the players on the field yesterday are unemployed at the end of the year. They have no contract for 2019. That was their audition/job interview. Some folks seem to have expected them to put forth a less than full effort. Same with the coaches. It's not just Rivera, never was. It's just easier for some to point one finger.

i'm such a fan i tell other fans the proper way to behave!   that's right.  because i'm the right kind of fan.  you know how i know that, because i'm the one doing it, so it has to be right.   blah blah blah.   sounds like impotence to me.  have absolutely 0 say in what team does, so tell other people with 0 say in what team does how to behave.  feel superior.  rinse and repeat.    you ain't shite.  you have 0 say.  your opinion, like mine, matters not at all, so shut up.

I don’t blame Rivera for winning today, the guys on the field weren’t going to lay down and I didn’t expect Rivera to. What I do blame Rivera for is being a shitty HC. The only negative emotions I have about winning is that it was possibly a factor in whether he stays or gets fired.
