Potential June 1st cut possiblities

If we listen to huddlers we would cut our whole defensive line and replace them. Let's ignore that you have to pay other guys to take their place while absorbing huge dead cap hits now and the future. Let's ignore that the regression of the line was partly due to Washington spending much less time with the D Line than in years past when he took over the coordinator role and his poor scheme. Also that if we use more 3-4 looks we need big men to fill the trenches. I doubt we cut Poe, Short or Addison. I think we will sign Love as well. I expect us to draft a DE but not in free agency unless we can get them for cheap.

I think Addison's deal should be extended, tbqh, and we should get some cap room there.

I still haven't read the details on Captain's "release" other than him being informed he would be released. If it isn't official, he could very well get one of the designations.

Kalil should 100% get the other.

The only other option I've considered at this point is Greg Olsen. He's old in football terms, and I'm not sold he'll ever come back. I think with him it will be an actual "wait and see" situation and he could be released after June 1st, thus requiring no designation.

Poe could be decent as a 3-4 rotational DT, and I give him more credit in our run D 4-3 than most do. He's another candidate that should have a base restructure, freeing up some money for this year.

Addison will be about 33---CJ hit the wall at 32.  Addison is  carrying about 20 lbs more than when he was drafted---I  expect  him to start  dropping off.

The good news?   I see Obada and Haynes (possibly) stepping up.  Cox Jr is our  new Horton.  We need a stud.

Something I learned recently is that any money saved via Post-June 1 cut isn't actually available until June 2nd. By then, all of the major FAs have been signed. Although, I'm sure there is some way teams circumvent that rule, right?

You can use it to pay your draft class. Or as money to get thru the season. These options are usually paid by not using all your available cap. Instead, we can spend down to zero and know those are covered. It’s an extra 7M(Kalil) or more if they use the other one.  A team might not technically get it at the time, but they can plan their strategy knowing it will be there.

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.
    • 13. Carolina is coming. The Panthers are well thought of around the league. Their "process" seems sound. I think their off-season will be very interesting to keep an eye on. They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
